While I never saw Idi Amin himself murder anyone, I was a student in high school when Idi Amin captured state power January 25, 1971.

Soon after that I was taken in by a friend who was a Sergeant Major at the time but later promoted to a Lieuftnant.

Living in his at Makindye residence not far from the Military Police Headquarters, I had to learn to speak the Nubian Language in order to survive as I was the only Muganda in the household that had many visitors all of the time. They spoke mainly Nubian, Lugbara and Kiswahili.

I used to hear dirty stories of murdered people from time to time as visitors (mainly soldiers and officers)would sit there and narrate their dirty linen or that of fellow soldiers related to who or how many had been killed here and there.

I recall the day I heard of about over 500 Army Officers Langis and Acholis who were massacred in Bulange and their bodies dumped into the lake; not long after Idi Amin took power.

In many cases, I would hear of orders to kill, given by the president or Commander in Chief!

I lost my own beloved elder brother to Idi Amin's merciless rogues and killers not to mention the many relatives and friends who were murdered in cold blood some of them for their material wealth, others for political reasons borne of megalomaniac phobia of being toppled from power.

It is true many people were also killed by others who planned to discredit Idi Amin's regime but from what I used to hear, I know many Ugandans were killed by the government soldiers and on presidential orders.

I very well recall how an Inspector of Police at Uganda's Interpol (Impala House) who was a friend of mine and who was in a way related to Kay Amin narrated to me what she saw and heard of the death of Kay and Dr. Mbaalu Mukasa.

Iam not saying that Idi Amin murdered Kay. Not at all. I say this to show that one of my sources of infirmation was a high officer in Interpol and how she was close to knowing much about whatever was going on in the highest circles.

Much of what I only recently read in Kyemba's book I had long known before from this friend and a few others.

Henry Kyemba's book (A state of Blood) gives a good account of the many people who died at the hands of Idi Amin or his direct orders.

Like Machati, I think it is unthinkable for Dr. Bisase to write as if exonerating Idi Amin of many of the deaths of Ugandans during his regime.

For while it is true he did not personally kill all of the people who died during his era, Idi Amin never, never even set up a commission of inquiry about the many citizens who were disappearing every day and whose bodies were being found dumped in rivers, in sugarcane plantations, Nnammanve forest to name one. He did nothing about it.

Citizens like Musa Palmer (Pama) who was a photographer and who dief for taking a snapshort of Dora Bloch the elderly Israel lady whose body was found laying by the roadside on Jjinja Road is one case of Idi Amin's direct orders and so was that of Dora Bloch herself.

While I look forward to reading Dr. Bisase's book, I stand to say that I used to hear cases of killings of people directly from Idi Amin's officers and soldiers and from my Interpol friend, in which often it was narrated how Idi Amin shot so and so or gave the orders to kill. Many people in Buganda, Busoga etc lost their lives to Idi Amin's regime.
Reply Quote

Re:Guardian Angel by Dr Arnold Bisase ..... 11 months, 3 weeks ago #8458mmlodinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17229004.post-83792974883807161542011-02-13T18:37:17.347-05:002011-02-13T18:37:17.347-05:00Would be interested to get the ISBN number and pub...Would be interested to get the ISBN number and publisher of the book!
