Kaka Kanumba, nimeulizwa na wengi na sina jibu. Ni Tuzo gani uliyopata huko Hollywood? Je, wafadhili wametoa Press Release, je umefanya press conference?
ReplyDeleteBig up,Da Chemi
Kanumba, na mimi nina swali. Ulipat na cash prize pia? Yaani hela?
ReplyDeleteKanumba acha ushamba, mtu akipokea award hama hiyo ana vaa TUXEDO siyo sweatshirt.
ReplyDeleteAlright,here's the hard facts:
ReplyDelete1)The Academy awards are on February 24th,that is,next month.It's the 17th of January :|
2)They give the Oscar...AT the Oscars. They don't hand them out at Universal Studios in front of a Coca Cola hut :|
3)No one from Africa is nominated for an Academy award.No.One.
4)That statue bears some of the fakest Gold I've laid my eyes upon.Real Gold sparkles and s-h-i-n-e-s when the Sun is out.
5)Kanumba has about a 0.0001% chance of winning an ACTUAL Oscar in his lifetime.Sorry, but that's what we call the harsh truth.
Now let's move on to something else, perhaps something with an element of TRUTH and REALISM.Like, oooh say,Obama kicking Hilary's ass in South Carolina?
Anonymous wa 1:59PM, you are wrong on Number 3. Several Africans been nominated, Djimon Hounsou (Benin), Sophie Okenedo (Nigeria), Thandie Newton (Zimbabwe)and Charlize Theron (mzungu from South Africa). Charlize won!
ReplyDeleteTruthfully it would be very difficult to get in a position where you can even compete for one.
I played the role of Nurse Malika in the film, Maangamizi the Ancient One. It was nominated by Tanzania in 2001 for the Academy Awards. It did not make the Top 5. That is the closet I got, but it was for the film and not as an actor.
Mind you the Committee that awards the Foreign Oscars is different from the committee that nominates the other categories is Best Actor etc.
Hiyo Academy imejaa siasa za rangi. Naweza kuzungumia siku nyingine.
Da Chemi...will your movie Bongoland II be nominated for those awards you spoke of? When it coming out anyway or is it out already.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous of 7:23am, thank-you for your comments. Bongoland II is in post-production. It is not yet ready for theatrical release.
ReplyDeleteI expect it to win some awards but no, it will not make it to the Oscars unless it is submitted by Tanzania in the Foreign Language categories. I hope that the Tanzanian nomination committee will find it worthy of being submitted as the 2nd film from Tanzania for consideration.
We shall see.
"you are wrong on Number 3. Several Africans been nominated, Djimon Hounsou (Benin), Sophie Okenedo (Nigeria), Thandie Newton (Zimbabwe)and Charlize Theron (mzungu from South Africa). Charlize won!"
ReplyDeleteI was talking about the Oscars Awards for this year, not every year ;)
They haven't released the nominees yet,but going by the movies that have come out last year,I can SAFELY say that my fellow Africans aren't winning anything this time around.
C'mon now,you as well as I know that Kanumba ain't won no Oscar. That 0.0001% may have been an overstatement, but we all know what it takes to win an Oscar:
1)Looks
2)Excellent critic reception and media coverage of a movie you've starred in.
3)Connections.
On the looks side, well,Kanumba is Kanumba-i'll leave it at that.On the critic reception side,I ain't heard no Kanumba film review by Roger Ebert. On the connections side,he has none, plain and simple.
I work in the music industry so I don't know much about how the movie studio agents scout for foreign/oversea talent, but one thing that I do know is that if you from Africa, specifically,Tanzania, and you're trying to make it over here?Chances are, you're on the bottom of the Scout's list, and you ain't winning no Oscar without an INCREDIBLE amount of talent AND media attention.
masifa tu labda kajichongea mwenyewe anacheza na hollywood huyo na zee zee zake
ReplyDeleteJamani hii kali.Yaani its obvious kabisa Kanumba kaamua kudanganya umma wa watanzania. And he even wasted his time to pose with such a cheap replica.Unajua ushamba inabidi uwe na mipaka.Hii imezidi.Umeenda kupokea award muhimu hivyo,na sweta?!!!!Hollywood!!!Kanumba hapa umejiabisha kupita maelezo.Ingekuwa huku Marekani..this could be the end of your career.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous of 8:12PM, I have to agree with you that I have also not heard of any buzz in regards to an African actor or an African film this year in the foreign categort. We shall see.
ReplyDeleteOf course Kanumba cannot win an Oscar until he has acted in a film and it better be of good qaulity. I checked and found that the Nigerian productions are not considered films but video productions. Mr. Ebert does not review videos.
Yes, to win an Oscar you need a great film, great director and most important a great script!
I have to disagree with you on the Looks aspect. Yes looks help but these days even ugly people and fat people can win and Oscar. Their acting has to be superb though.
We chemi, fat people wana nini mpaka unawatofautisha na wengine ..eti even fat people!! Jamani waafrika miili yetu ndivyo imeumbwa acheni kujishindisha njaa ili mkonde!
Huoni walivyokondeana mpaka unaona mifupa?
ReplyDeleteCamryn Manheim alipopata Oscar alisema, "This is for the Fat People". Kwanza hakutegemea kushinda kwa sababu alijua unene utamponza.
Hata wanaume wa Hollywood wamekondeana.
Siku hizi wanaitwa Heayset, hata mimi nikituma acting resume inabidi niandike Heavyset. Si mbaya maana kwenye commercial fulani walitaka Heavyset Black woman.
"I have to disagree with you on the Looks aspect. Yes looks help but these days even ugly people and fat people can win and Oscar. Their acting has to be superb though."
ReplyDeleteTo me(the way I see it,that is)looks and talent go hand in hand in the Hollywood of today.
That's not to say that if you look 'good' according to Hollywood standards(You know-Tall,Slim/Buff,sharp Facial features etc)you're guaranteed an Oscar, but if you've got talent AND look 'good',your chances of getting the good roles are greater. You get a good role=you get more media attention. And more media attention leads to more interest from critics and movie-goers,and this ultimately leads to nominations.
I agree, being Fat/Overweight isn't a barrier to a nomination/Oscar win,but if you are packing a few extra pounds, you better be one hell of an Actor/Actress.This is why you have a lot of successful Fat Comedic Actors/Actresses,because Comedic films don't lean heavily on the Actor's/Actresses looks in the same way a Drama/Action/Thriller film does,it's all about verbal humor, and putting the actor/actress in a funny and quirky situation in Comedy movies.
Now,back to the lying Actor.Kanumba doesn't have the typical African American looks, nor does his features stand out from the millions of other struggling black actors, this is the first problem. The second problem is,his history/background is not 'grabbing' enough to draw mass interest,at the end of the day,he's simply a black foreign actor that hails from a 3rd world country. The third problem is directly connected to the second one,but this one has to do with Language; Can he speak fluently enough in English?I've heard him talk, sadly, the answer to this is no.
To sum this all up; Kanumba PRESENTLY does not have what it takes to make it as an actor in America. You have other Tanzanians that have established a considerable amount of interest in American organizations/institutions,such as your Hashim(The college basketball player),you got your Cynthia Masasi(The hip hop video girl),and others. Both of these, have what it takes to make it in their field,Hashim has the height that generates him interest and praise,Cynthia has the 'typical' video girl looks that generate her interest.Kanumba?Unless he enrolls in a lot of English and Acting courses and starts hitting the Gym hard,he's going nowhere in Hollywood.
"Jamani waafrika miili yetu ndivyo imeumbwa"
ReplyDeleteNo no no,being overweight has absolutely NOTHING to do with your heritage. That's equivalent to me saying that Asians are good at Math because they're Asian.
Makes no sense at all.
Dada Chemi Chemponda naomba ni ku sahihishe kidogo , Camryn Manheim hajawahi pata tuzo ya Oscar wala kuwa nomminated , aliposema "This is for the Fat People". ilikuwa ni alipo shinda tuzo ya Emmy na kwa usahihi alisema "This is for the Fat girls ".
