Wengine waliokufa ni madereva wa bodaboda na mama nitilie!  Walizoa mafuta hata kwenye ndoo! Na wanasema, mafuta yalilipuka baada ya mtu kuchomoa  betri ya lori  na mtu mwingine alikuwa anavuta sigara!   Nasikia huyo mvuta sigara aliambiwa asivute karibu na mafuta.  Alijibu mafuta ya kisasa hayawezi kuwaka moto! Nadhani watakuwemo kwenye watu waliokufa!

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania (AP) — A damaged tanker truck exploded in eastern Tanzania as people were trying to siphon fuel out of it Saturday, killing at least 62 in one of the worst incidents of its kind in the East African country.

Tanzanian state broadcaster TBC, citing police figures, said at least 70 more people were injured during the explosion in the town of Morogoro, located about 120 miles (200 kilometers) from the economic hub of Dar es Salaam.

Regional police commissioner Steven Kabwe told the local Azam TV that many suffered serious burns.

Witnesses told The Associated Press that a crowd had gathered around the fuel tanker after it was involved in an accident early Saturday and some people were trying to siphon away fuel when the truck burst into flames.

Video footage posted on social media showed people collecting fuel into jerry cans before the fire incident.

In a statement expressing condolences, Tanzanian President John Magufuli said he was dismayed people attacked vehicles involved in accidents instead of offering help.

Residents are routinely killed by explosions while stealing fuel from incapacitated tankers in East Africa. Those who steal the fuel usually hope to be able to sell it cheaply to motorists.

In 2013, at least 29 people were killed on the outskirts of the Ugandan capital, Kampala, as scores swarmed around the scene of an accident.

There is limited awareness about the danger of explosions of damaged fuel tankers, said Henry Bantu, a road safety expert who runs the Tanzania-based Safe Speed Foundation. Local leaders need to do more to educate people on the risks, he said.

Akisoma risala siku ya wanawake mbele ya mgeni rasmi mke wa rais wa Zanzibar na Mwenyekiti wa Baraza la Mapinduzi , Mama Mwanamwema Shein , katika siku ya wanawake hafla iliyofanyika hoteli ya Bwawani, Mweka hazina wa Zanzibalicious Women Group, Shekha Hilal alisema hali hiyo ni changamoto kubwa na sasa kunatafutwa namna ya kumfikia mwanamke huyu ambaye ameshagota katika jamii yetu.

“Mama Shein asilimia hii ni kubwa saana, na sisi kama wanawake ambao tayari tumejaaliwa elimu na tunajitambua, ikiwa ni pamoja na tayari tumepiga hatua kimaendeleo katika nyanja mbalimbali, tumeguswa sana sana na suala hili.” Alisema Shekha.

Zanzibalicious ni umoja wa wanawake wanaoishi Zanzibar,ulioanzishwa mwaka 2011,na kusajiliwa rasmi mwaka 2013, ikiambatana na uzinduzi uliofanyika tarehe 28 Machi 2014.

“Je hili ni jukumu la serikali peke yake? Au sisi tunatakiwa tujumuike na serikali? mheshimiwa mgeni rasmi tumeona ya kwamba tuungane pamoja na serikali katika kutekeleza suala hili.” Alisema Shekha akielezea nia ya taasisi hiyo ya kuondoa umaskini miongoni mwa wanawake nchini Zanzibar.

Alisema taasisi yao inajipanga kutoa elimu za aina mbili ili awali kumuwezesha kujikimu kupitia ujasiriamali, kwa kumpatia elimu kwa vitendo,kwa mfano:-ushonaji,ufugaji na utengenezaji wa bidhaa mbali mbali na pili kumtoa katika hali ya upweke ili elimu atakayopata imfikishe kwenye mifuko mbali mbali pamoja na mfuko wa Rais Dk. Ali Mohammed Shein .

Alisema katika program hiyo wanatarajia baada ya miaka 2 wanawake 100 watakuwa wanajitegemea wenyewe na kuwa mabalozi katika kuelimisha wanawake wengine zaidi.

Akizungumzia mafanikio ya asasi hiyo alisema kwamba imefanikiwa kutoa elimu na kuwawezesha kina mama kuunda vikundi vidogo vidogo vya maendeleo kwa kuanzisha miradi mbalimbali, kwa mfano kina mama wa Chaani na Matemwe.

Aidha imetoa misaada ya hali na mali kwa waathirika wa madawa ya kulevya ikiwa ni moja ya kumkwamua mwanamke na kutoa misaada mbali mbali kwa wanawake wasiojiweza ikiwemo hospital kuu ya Mnazi mmoja na kina mama wajane.

Alisema pamoja na mafanikio hayo bado wanawake wanakabiliwa na changamoto za ndoa za utotoni, uzazi salama, ukatili wa kijinsia,mfumo dume, ubaguzi na mimba za utotoni.

Mhe.Mgeni rasmi, Umoja huu umekuwa ukiendesha shughuli zote tokea mwaka 2011 kwa kutegemea michango yetu sisi binafsi.

Changamoto hii imesababisha kutokutimiza kwa malengo yetu kwa muda tulioupanga kutokana na kukosa fedha za kutosheleza utekelezaji wa malengo hayo.

Akijibu risala hiyo Mke wa Rais wa Zanzibar na Mwenyekiti wa Baraza la Mapinduzi, Mama Mwanamwema Shein, ameikumbusha jamii kuunganisha nguvu zao kuwakomboa wanawake kujiendeleza kimaisha na kujiongezea kipato.

Alisema hatua hiyo itaongeza kasi ya kuimarisha ustawi wa familia na jamii hususan wanawake wanaoishi vijijini ambao wanakabiliwa na changamoto zaidi.

Alisema sherehe ya siku ya wanawake duniani inakuwa na maana zaidi kama juhudi zitafanyika kuangalia changamoto na kujipanga kuzifanyia kazi.

“Rai yangu ni kuwa tuwazingatie zaidi akina mama wanaoishi vijijini na wenye mahitaji maalum kutokana na kukosa fursa kama hizo za kuwaendeleza kimaisha”, alisisitiza.

Kuhusu uzoefu wake katika maisha na malezi ya watoto, alisema amebahatika kupata watoto 11 ambao amewalea katika mazingira mbalimbali ikiwa ni kwenda na kurudi kazini na kuwa pekee huku mumewe akiwa safarini kikazi.

Aidha, aliwataka wanawake kuwa wastahamilivu katika malezi ya watoto hasa watoto Njiti ambao huzaliwa kabla ya kufikisha muda.

Hata hivyo aliwaonya wanawake wanaojali kujiremba na kuwa sahau watoto na kukumbusha kwa ‘watoto ni wageni’ kwamba wanahitaji matunzo na ukarimu mkubwa kutoka kwa wazazi wao.

.UN calls on fastest reduction of poverty to meet the MDGs

UNITED Nations (UN) members states has been told to take on board issues of youth in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as part of the global community efforts to fight against organized crimes such as terrorism and drug trafficking. Moblog can report.

Speaking to invited dignitaries during the commemoration of the 68^th anniversary of the United Nations in Dar es Salam at Karimjee grounds, the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Hon, Ambassador Khamis Kagasheki said although the MDGs is all about development but unfortunately the inclusion of youth is conspicuously absent in the eight goals.

He said that according to the 2012 Population and Housing Census (PHC), the proportion of persons aged 15-35 years has decreased marginally from 35.6 percent in 2002 to 34.7 percent in 2012. The median age of the Tanzania’s population is 18 years.

Ambassador Kagasheki added that Tanzania like many other African countries suffers from youth unemployment rate of 13.4 percent. Youth employees aged between 15 and 24 years comprise only 2.5 percent of total employees in the formal sector showing the low involvement of youths in the formal sector.

“These challenges affect all segments of the population. But young people are the most affected. We are witnessing an increased trend of the youth falling victims of joining terrorists groups, drug cartels and organized crimes which is not healthy to global community welfare,”

“Agricultural sector which is the main stay of most Tanzanians employs 81.4 percent. 24 percent of youths aged 15-24 years are employed in manufacturing industry followed by wholesale and retail trade comprising 17.6 percent of total youths in the formal sector. Another important industry in employing youths in Tanzania is the education sector with 15.2 percent of all youths in this sector,’ he said.

He further said that major challenges facing the youth today are lack of access to capital, negative impact of the electronic media and social networks and competitiveness in education. These are current challenges apart from the traditional ones which are drug abuse, crime, violence, sexuality and poverty.

On his part UN Resident Coordinator Alberic Kacou said that globally, this year's UN Day focuses on the eight UN Millennium Development Goals and the global partnership to achieve those goals.

“In Tanzania we have chosen “The Future We Want” as the week’s theme, focusing more towards the Post 2015 Development Agenda and the role of Youth,”

“As we seek to identify the parameters of the post-2015 development agenda, the magnitude of the task before us will require decisive action and the highest levels of collaboration and we must prove our efforts to be equal to the enormity of the task,” he said

He further said that at the request of the President of the World Bank, members of the UN System Chief Executives Board (CEB) agreed unanimously in November 2012 to use its semi-annual meetings to review and improve their support to MDG progress in countries ahead of the 2015 target date. Tanzania was among the countries selected for the first review.

Kacou underscored that many nations have achieved what could have been considered a dream in 2000 – cutting in half the number of people living in extreme poverty.

Similarly, some progress is made on eliminating gender disparities in school, expanding access to safe drinking water, and improving living conditions for slum dwellers BUT progress on health, sanitation, and primary school completion is still at risk. He lamented.

ENGARUKA, Tanzania — When the bell rang at midday, students fetched tin bowls and lined up under trees in the schoolyard for scoops of corn and bean porridge.

Not one of them displayed the food fussiness often seen in American school lunch lines.

In a remote, dirt-poor town in southern Mexico, basketball helps bring kids “out of the shadows.”

After the rainy seasons shortchanged this Maasai village in northern Tanzania, children here suffered too many days when there was no porridge — no food at all to eat in their mud and stick huts. Drought is to blame for a good share of their suffering.

Scientists are developing drought-tolerant corn, something that could ease hunger across Tanzania and sub-Saharan Africa. But because it is genetically modified, the corn cannot be planted here. Opponents of genetically modified crops have made a stand in Africa, and now villages such as Engaruka are squarely in the middle of a global ideological war over agricultural technology.

Since U.S. farmers first adopted GM crops in 1996, 17 million farmers in 29 countries have followed suit. Europe has rejected the crops, though, arguing that farmers would be exploited by large seed companies and that more research is needed into possible risks to the environment and food safety. And European activists have pressured Africa to do the same. Just four African countries — Sudan, Egypt, Burkina Faso and South Africa — have allowed them.

No one denies Africa’s hunger. World crop production has more than doubled in 50 years, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization. But Africa has lagged behind, achieving some gains while losing ground in places such as Engaruka where drought, plant diseases and other problems have knocked down yields and depleted the available food. Now that problem takes on new urgency with U.N. projections that Africa’s population will quadruple by the end of this century.

Still, the question of which approach is best for Africa remains hotly disputed. It tears at Tanzania, where 80 percent of the people live by subsistence agriculture.
