Hata hivyo ujumbe wake uliwafikia! Lazima niseme ni shujaa kwa tando aliyofanya.
Wadau, hapa Marekani ukisema malaria watu wanaugopa kweli.

Heh!
************************************************************
By JEROME DELAY
Associated Press Writer
ANTANANARIVO, Madagascar (AP) -- The mayor of Madagascar's capital said he was in charge of the country Saturday after a week of violent protests that left 43 dead but there were no indications that his claims of taking over the government were true.
There was no immediate comment from President Marc Ravalomanana, but a government news conference was expected later in the day.
Mayor Andry Rajoelina, who has grown increasingly critical of Ravalomanana and has called for him to stand down, addressed a crowd of about 4,500 people in the capital's main square.
"Until the establishment of a transitional government, it is me who gives the command," he said. "I send a call to the forces of law and order that it is me who gives the command."
Rajoelina has made similar claims in the last week, saying he is ready to take over an interim government. But the constitution requires a president be at least 40, and Rajoelina is 34.
The rally ended peacefully after some protesters threw stones at police in the morning. Police withdrew from the area and protesters set up a barricade of barrels and trash cans around the square.
Unrest began Monday when protesters set the government broadcasting complex ablaze, along with an oil depot, shopping mall and a private TV station linked to Ravalomanana.
The protests were sparked by the government's decision that day to close a radio station owned by Rajoelina. He accuses Ravalomanana's government of misspending funds and threatening democracy.
By Friday, the violence had subsided but a tense atmosphere remained on the streets of the capital.
Ravalomanana had said the government would crack down on those inciting violence, but later toned down his stance.
On Thursday, he made a conciliatory gesture and promised to put the mayor's radio station back on the air.
Western and African leaders have pressed the two men to resolve their differences.
Madagascar, off Africa's southeast coast, is known for its rare wildlife and eco-tourism -- but also for its history of political unrest and infighting. It is also one of Africa's poorest nations with more than half the population living on less than $1 per day.
Ravalomanana clashed with former President Didier Ratsiraka when both claimed the presidency after a disputed December 2001 election. After low-level fighting split the country between two governments, two capitals and two presidents, Ratsiraka fled to France in June 2002.
Ravalomanana won re-election in 2006, though two opposition candidates tried to challenge the validity of the vote.
Mdogo Wake Rais Obama Amekamatwa Kenya!

An icon of contemporary Tanzanian music, Nakaaya, has been signed to Sony Music Entertainment. Among the record label’s well-known subsidiaries are Columbia Records, RCA Records and Epic records, just to mention a few.
Nakaaya, who has acquired a large following and growing fan base across the region, now makes history by being the first East African artist ever to be signed to the second largest record company in the world.
The company’s roster includes internationally-acclaimed artists such as Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Chris Brown, Sean Kingston and many more.
The signing took place when Nakaaya was attending the "Music’s Relevance in Third World Countries" Conference, in Copenhagen, Denmark, in late 2008. Sony Music Entertainment spotted the Tanzanian artist during an interview with "Deadline," on the prominent Danish television channel, "DR2," and immediately sought to sign her up for a recording deal.
"We are very excited by having signed Nakaaya to our company. She’s an extremely talented artist and we look forward to working with her in the future", comments Peter Groenbaek, Sony Music, on the signing.
After having burst onto the Tanzanian and East African music scene just two years ago, Nakaaya’s popularity and recognition as one of the Region’s top artists continues to grow, and her being signed by a major player in the international music business is a milestone for her career and the East African music industry as a whole. This historic signing is also a testimony to her talent and capability.
The lyrical content of Nakaaya’s music is inspired by social issues that have on-the-ground relevance to Tanzanian, East African and indeed African audiences, with a particular skew towards women and the plights of their everyday lives.
Her musical style is influenced largely by Hip Hop, R&B and some Afro flavour, and is essentially a well-rounded depiction of Bongo Flava.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- For the war-beaten orphans of the northern Iraqi city of Tikrit, this big old shoe fits.
A monument to a shoe thrown at former President Bush is unveiled at the Tikrit Orphanage complex.
A huge sculpture of the footwear hurled at President Bush in December during a trip to Iraq has been unveiled in a ceremony at the Tikrit Orphanage complex.
Assisted by children at the home, sculptor Laith al-Amiri erected a brown replica of one of the shoes hurled at Bush and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki by journalist Muntadhir al-Zaidi during a press conference in Baghdad.
Al-Zaidi was jailed for his actions, and a trial is pending. But his angry gesture touched a defiant nerve throughout the Arab and Muslim world. He is regarded by many people as a hero. Demonstrators in December took to the streets in the Arab world and called for his release.
The shoe monument, made of fiberglass and coated with copper, consists of the shoe and a concrete base. The entire monument is 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) high. The shoe is 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) long and 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) wide.
The orphans helped al-Amiri build the $5,000 structure -- unveiled Tuesday -- in 15 days, said Faten Abdulqader al-Naseri, the orphanage director.
"Those orphans who helped the sculptor in building this monument were the victims of Bush's war," al-Naseri said. "The shoe monument is a gift to the next generation to remember the heroic action by the journalist."
"When the next generation sees the shoe monument, they will ask their parents about it," al-Naseri said.
"Then their parents will start talking about the hero Muntadhir al-Zaidi, who threw his shoe at George W. Bush during his unannounced farewell visit."
Saddam Hussein, the former Iraqi leader toppled by the United States in 2003, was from the Tikrit region.
Al-Zaidi marked his 30th birthday in jail earlier this month. One of his brothers said he is "in good health and is being treated well."
Al-Zaidi's employer, TV network al-Baghdadia, keeps a picture of him at the top left side of the screen with a calendar showing the number of days he has spent in detention. The network has been calling for his release.
By tradition, throwing a shoe is the most insulting act in the Arab world.

Los Angeles: In suicide note, father blames layoffs for decision to kill children
January 28, 2009
Police believe Ervin Lupoe killed his five children and his wife before turning the gun on himself. Both adults were recently fired from their hospital jobs.
“Why leave our children in someone else’s hands?” Lupoe wrote in his letter faxed to KABC-TV. The station posted the letter on its Web site with parts redacted. (Editor's note: There's a link to the letter in the column to the right)
The station called police after receiving the fax and a phone call from Lupoe, and a police dispatch center also received a call from a man who said, “I just returned home and my whole family’s been shot.” Police are unsure who the male caller was, but they suspect it was the father.
Officers rushed to the home in Wilmington, a small community between the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and found the bodies.
All the victims were shot in the head, some multiple times, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said. The killings may have occurred between Monday evening and early Tuesday, based on neighbors’ accounts of firecracker sounds, he said.
Although the fax — addressed to “whom it may concern” and explaining “why we are dead” — asserted that the wife, Ana Lupoe, planned the killings of the whole family, police Lt. John Romero said Ervin Lupoe was the suspect. A revolver was found next to his body.
It was the fifth mass death of a Southern California family by murder or suicide in a year. Police urged those facing tough economic times to get help rather than resort to violence.
“Today our worst fear was realized,” said Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner. “It’s just not a solution. There’s just so many ways you find alternatives to doing something so horrific and drastic as this.”
Ervin Lupoe removed three of the children from school about a week and a half ago, saying the family was moving to Kansas, the principal told KCAL-TV. Crescent Heights Elementary School Principal Cherise Pounders-Caver said nothing seemed to be troubling Ervin Lupoe, and she did not ask why the family was moving.
Kaiser Permanente Medical Center West Los Angeles released a statement confirming Lupoe and his wife were fired as medical technicians more than a week ago. The hospital said the firings followed an internal investigation but would not specify why they lost their jobs.
The letter indicated that Lupoe and his wife — both 40 — had been investigated for misrepresenting their employment to an outside agency to obtain childcare. He claimed that an administrator told the couple on Dec. 23: “You should not even had bothered to come to work today you should have blown your brains out.”
Lupoe’s letter said the couple complained to the human resources department and eventually were offered an apology but two days later they were fired.
“They did nothing to the manager who stated such and did not attempt to assist us in the matter, knowing we have no job and five children under 8 years with no place to go. So here we are,” the note said.
At the bottom of the letter, Lupoe wrote, “Oh lord, my God, is there no hope for a widow’s son?” The phrase is frequently found in Internet discussions about the novel “The Da Vinci Code,” Freemasons and Mormonism.
Kaiser Permanente said staff was “saddened by the despair” in Lupoe’s letter “but we are confident that no one told him to take his own life or the lives of his family.”
Lupoe’s fax identified his children as Brittney, 8; 5-year-old twins Jaszmin and Jassely; and twins Benjamin and Christian, ages 2 years and 4 months. Winter confirmed the identities of the girls, but the boys’ names were pending.
To Amanda Garcia, everything seemed normal in the Lupoe house next door. Her neighbors always had a friendly wave and their five young children would play outside.
“They were happy, they had birthday parties,” the 22-year-old Garcia said as she choked back tears near her home. “The kids were always outside on bikes, riding on their wagon.”

BoT Yatikiswa
2009-01-28 11:00:08

Gabourey 'Gabby' Sidibe - Superstar!

Film Review: Push: Based on the Novel By Sapphire
By Ray Greene
Strong performances make for essential viewing.
Some films arrive at Sundance expecting to be great, and some the festival thrusts greatness upon. Foremost of these in 2009 was Push: Based on the Novel By Sapphire, director Lee Daniels' harrowing cross between an inspirational teacher genre exercise, a Ken Russell fantasy film of the '70s and the child abuse melodrama Hound Dog. Overloaded a bit by Daniels' laudable visual ambition and distinguished by an unflinching view of ghetto life that has nothing to do with standard Hollywood liberal postures toward deprivation and/or blackness, Push is also (and foremost) a stunning acting showcase, not just for newcomer Gabourey Sidibe, who absolutely soars as the abused high school student Precious Jones, but also for comedian Mo'Nique in a stunning tour de force as Precious' abusive mom.
It's the '80s, and Precious is a study in unexplored human potential. Morbidly overweight and functionally illiterate, she leads a vast and poetic internal life via a fantasy reflex that transports her to a shiny world of klieg lights and thrust stages where she can pretend to be beloved, talented and a nascent superstar. Precious uses these fantasies to insulate herself from the harsh realities of her world: humiliating gangs, random street violence and an abusive father who has been sexually assaulting her since she was three, with two resultant pregnancies. With her father largely absent, the gorgon in Precious' daily life is her mother, a bitter recluse living on Welfare who routinely beats Precious out of warped romantic jealousy. A series of school teachers and social workers help Precious to move past her sad state, inspiring her to write out her own story as a way of changing her life.
Daniels has made a remarkable series of bold choices, all of which seek to depict Precious honestly and without the usual self-congratulatory showbiz cant. At times, Precious fantasizes without guilt about being white, so much so that it's a white model's features she sees in her own bedroom mirror. Precious is also not above petty thievery, stealing her own file from a social worker's office and a bucket of chicken from a fast food store. In a sense, Precious is a more ambivalent and less idealized version of the little girl from Doug Atchison's excellent (but far lighter) Akeelah and the Bee; someone trying to get over an environment that's toxic to her aspirations and her dreams.
Despite her almost flamboyant largeness (which Push sees as a natural reaction to Precious' horrible home-life) and the sometimes melodramatic twists her story takes, Sidibe's Precious is so startlingly truthful and so subtle she seems to have stepped out of a documentary to make her appearance here. Totally believable performances are also turned in by both Lenny Kravitz (as a male nurse) and Mariah Carey (as a tough but tender social worker), with Carey in particular disappearing so completely into her drab but sassy workaday messiah that the watcher's mind keeps saying: "That can't be her!"
But the almost certain 2010 Oscar nom for all of this (predictable even today, on the day the 2009 noms were just announced) belongs to Mo'Nique, whose alternately horrifying and devastating performance humanizes a monster. The last ten minutes of Push are devoted to a revelatory confrontation between mother and daughter, and Mo'Nique's bravura transformation, from opportunistic schemer to shattered woman unable to face an unlivable truth, is so unerring it literally makes the viewer gasp. Daniels, who produced Monsters Ball and shows a similar belief in giving his actors room to explore, has captured a performance here that can stand with the best ever committed to film. It simply should not be missed.
