Ushoga Unashamiri Marekani!

(Pichani ) Mcheza sinema Cynthia Nixon (kulia)na Mpenzi Wake Christine

Wadau, siku hizi kuna mtindo wa ajabu. Wanawake wanaacha wanaume wao waliofunga ndoa nao, wanawake wengine wanaacha boyfriends wao, wanawake wengine wanatupa wachumba wao.... na kuanza urafiki na mwanamke! Loh!

Nakuambia, mtu akikohoa, akipiga chafya, watu wanamtazama mara ishirini!

ATLANTA – The number of confirmed swine flu cases in the United States has jumped to 64, federal officials said Tuesday, and states reported at least four more.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the new count includes "a number of hospitalizations." CDC officials had previously said just one person had been hospitalized.
The CDC said there were 17 new cases in New York City, four more in Texas and three additional cases in California. That brings the total numbers of cases confirmed by federal officials to 45 in New York City, 10 in California, six in Texas, two in Kansas and one in Ohio.
State health officials in California have confirmed three other cases, and Indiana authorities have confirmed one.

The increase is not surprising. For days, CDC officials have said they expected to see more confirmed cases — and more severe illnesses. Health officials across the country have stepped up efforts to look for cases, especially among people with flu-like illness who had traveled to Mexico.
CDC officials also warned that updates in the number of confirmed cases would at time be disjointed, as different states announce new information before the CDC's national count is updated.

*****************************************************************************
Bongoland II screening in KC a success

Josiah,

Thank you again for working with me, the Sister Cities Association of Kansas City (SCAKC) and The KC Film Jubilee to bring your film Bongoland II to our movie market. Our annual international film festival is being held from April 22nd – 26th. Bongoland II was shown Thursday night at 7:45 PM in our new AMC Main Street theater in downtown KC. It ran with English subtitles, and was well attended by a diverse audience which included Tanzanian immigrants. From 6:00 – 7:30 PM, we also hosted a reception for the Bongoland opening - attended by the mayor, members of our city council and other supporters in the beautiful Marquee Bar & Grill located in the theater.

On a personal note, I had a great experience watching Bongoland II! It was the first movie by an African filmmaker that I have seen. I loved the scenery, the drama and the complexity of modern day issues confronted by people living and working in Tanzania today. For those who can understand Swahili, I’m sure the movie experience would have been even better – not having to read English subtitles. I wish you great success as an up and coming filmmaker.

I hope we can work with you again in the future, and invite you to visit our lovely city one day. In June we are hosting a visit by the Tanzanian ambassador. FilmFest is a film extravaganza that includes a juried film show and is held here every year. For more information about FilmFest and the KC Filmmakers Jubilee got to www.kcfilmfest.org and www.kcjubilee.org.

All the best!

Craigslist Killer

Aibu kwao! Sisi weusi tulipumua maana tulijua wote tuliopita hapo hotelini ni masuspect namba wani kabla hawajamfikiria mtu mwingine.

Mwuaji kakamatwa jana. Ni Philip Markoff (23). Jamaa alikuwa anasomea udaktari, Boston University. Alikuwa mwanafunzi mwaka wa pili. Cha kuchekesha watu wanamwita 'All American'. Nyie, mweusi au asiye mzungu haitwi All American hata siku moja!

Haya, wazungu wanashangaa nini kilimfanya huyo kijana mzuri aharibike hivyo. Haya!

******************************************************************

BOSTON, Massachusetts (CNN) -- Friends and acquaintances of Philip Markoff, a medical student accused of killing a woman he may have met through a Craigslist online ad, described the 23-year-old as a model student.

"My girlfriend actually rode the elevator with him a lot alone; it's kind of freaking her out now," said Patrick Sullivan, who lived in the same apartment building as Markoff in Quincy, Massachusetts, a Boston suburb.

"She thought he was kind of the all-American, good-looking guy," Sullivan said. "When she saw him on TV yesterday, she even remarked, 'I can't believe it's him. I always thought he had such a great smile, and he was so nice to me.'"

James Kehoe, a friend of Markoff's from the State University of New York at Albany, where both attended college, said Markoff was "one of the best students I've probably ever encountered."
"He would never put anything in front of his work," he said. "He had great aspirations to be a doctor."
Markoff, a second-year student at Boston University's School of Medicine, is charged with killing 26-year-old Julissa Brisman of New York on April 14 at Boston's Copley Marriott Hotel. Watch acquaintances describe a smart, good-looking guy »

Markoff was arraigned Tuesday and is being held without bail.
His attorney, John Salsberg, told reporters after the hearing that Markoff is "not guilty of the charges. He has his family's support. I have not received any document or report or piece of evidence other than what I heard in the courtroom. All I have at the moment are words -- no proof of anything."

A Boston University spokeswoman said the school suspended Markoff, who has no criminal record, when it learned of the charges on Monday.
"This was a brutal, vicious crime. Savage," Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley told reporters. "And it shows that Philip Markoff is a man who's willing to take advantage of women -- to hurt them, to beat them, to rob them."
A procedural not-guilty plea was entered on Markoff's behalf, Conley said.
Evidence from the scene suggests that Brisman "put up a fight," prosecutor Jennifer Hickman said during the hearing Tuesday. Police have said that Brisman, a model, advertised as a masseuse on Craigslist, a popular online classifieds service.

She suffered blunt head trauma, Hickman said, and was shot three times at close range. One of the bullets passed through her heart, killing her, she said.

Markoff is also charged in connection with the April 10 robbery of a woman at a Westin Hotel in Boston. In that case, the woman made arrangements to meet a man through Craigslist for a massage at the hotel, but was held at gunpoint and bound, Hickman said. She was robbed of $800 and personal items and left tied to a door handle with duct tape over her mouth, the prosecutor said in court Tuesday. The victim was not identified.

Megan McAllister, who identified herself as Markoff's fiancee, maintained his innocence in an e-mail sent to ABC News. McAllister said Markoff "is the wrong man" and "was set up."
"Unfortunately, you were given wrong information as was the public," she wrote. "All I have to say to you is Philip is a beautiful person inside and out and could not hurt a fly!"
She accused Boston police of "trying to make big bucks by selling this false story to the TV stations. What else is new??"

Authorities believe the motive in Brisman's death was robbery, Conley told reporters. In executing a search warrant at Markoff's home, police found a firearm, along with restraints and duct tape, he said.

Surveillance videos from the hotel where Brisman was killed showed a tall, clean-cut young blond man in a black windbreaker leaving the property, according to Boston police, who had sought public assistance in identifying the man.

Police traced the Internet communications with Brisman to an e-mail account that had been opened the day before her death, Conley said. Using Internet provider information, they found the computer was at Markoff's residence in Quincy. Authorities put the home under surveillance, Conley said, and "the case just begins to build from there."

Markoff, meanwhile, is "bearing up," Salsberg said. "It's obviously a difficult time for anybody in these circumstances with the charges that have been brought against him. ... He's pleaded not guilty. He is not guilty."

Authorities in Boston are working with police in Warwick, Rhode Island, on what could be a related case. On April 16 at a Holiday Inn Express in Warwick, a man tied up and demanded money from a 26-year-old dancer who had posted a Craigslist advertisement, Warwick Police Chief Col. Stephen McCartney said.

The robbery was interrupted when the woman's husband entered the room. After pointing his gun at the husband, the suspect fled, McCartney said. He said the incident "may be related to similar crimes occurring in the Boston area," but that had not been determined.

Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster told CNN the company is "horrified and deeply saddened that our community services have been associated in any way whatsoever with a crime of violence." He promised that Craigslist will evaluate the incident to see whether additional measures could be introduced to protect users.

UAfrika Wakumba Afrika Kusini!

Yaani wadau, hii habari inachekesha kweli! Yaani UAfrika unazidi Afrika Kusini.

Is South Africa about to become more 'African'?

April 22, 2009. South … By Scott Baldauf

Johannesburg – Rising crime, crumbling roads, pernicious corruption, and landslide victories for the ruling party in charge: these are the signs that South Africa – so "First World" at first appearance – is now on the decline.

But the one complaint that seems to top them all here these days is that the country is becoming more "African."

That particular gripe usually comes from well-to-do South Africans – white and black – who are worried about the trajectory of the country once populist leader Jacob Zuma takes power after he wins Wednesday's presidential election, which he is all but certain to do.

It's a statement that conjures the frenzied dysfunction of Nigeria, the brutal despotism of Zimbabwe, the power-madness of Kenyan politicians, and the genocidal civil wars that strike Rwanda and Sudan's Darfur.

Indeed, with Mr. Zuma – a man with a grade-school education, a polygamist, who has definitely tilted his party away from the monied suburbs and toward the black African masses – many South Africans are finally coming to grips with what it means to live on the African continent.

Yet a closer look at the values that South African blacks practice at home, and the expectations they have of their leaders, suggests that some of this pessimism – exemplified by Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio's sour explanation, "This is Africa," in the movie "Blood Diamond" – is a bit overdone. A truly majority-run South Africa may not operate the way a foreigner or European immigrant would expect, but it is also a culture with its own well-defined approach to culture and justice.

The 'ubuntu' spirit
A central concept in southern African cultures is the notion of ubuntu, which literally means "being a human being."

"If you look at ubuntu, that is the way in which people look after those who are vulnerable and weak," says Dumiso Matshazi, a political analyst in Tshwane, as Pretoria is now called. Ubuntu is a collective compassion that holds people together, that won't allow someone to starve or to remain homeless; it is the glue that can hold society together, he adds.

Ubuntu, seen in the many families who take in AIDS orphans, and in voluntary township soup kitchens, has been weakened significantly in recent years, anthropologist Pearl Sithole says, as blacks move from tightly knit rural areas to the cities in search for jobs, and as politically connected Africans use their personal connections to achieve personal wealth.

"The idea of ubuntu survives, but it has been contravened by the current economic consensus," says Ms. Sithole, a researcher at the Human Sciences Research Council in Durban. "But most communities in South Africa are bound by ubuntu, the notion that if your brother dies, you are obliged to engulf his family as your own."

Ubuntu is what South African black voters expect to hear from their leaders at election time – a reassurance that common sense and decency will prevail. Those black politicians who talk in abstract terms of economic growth may reassure white South Africans and educated members of the black middle class, but they leave many African voters cold, Sithole says.

Jacob Zuma's common touch
"People look from a point of view of what a leader can do for them," she says, and while "educated South Africans might appreciate what [former President Thabo Mbeki] has done, you hear people talk of his coldness and his abstract achievements." By comparison, "people like Zuma because he tends to spend time locally. He observes local traditions. He listens. He is sympathetic, and he can say, 'I have gone through the same thing.' "

Many white South Africans see in Zuma the stereotype of the African Big Man politician – a man who uses political power to build up himself and his cronies. But many Zuma supporters say he will be the exact opposite.

Rather than looting the national treasuries and natural resources, in the mode of Zaire's Mobutu Sese Seko, Uganda's Idi Amin, or Nigeria's Sani Abacha, they say, he will be more keen to ensure that national services like education, hospitals, clean drinking water, and electricity are shared more equitably, especially among the poor.

"The Ndebele people have a saying 'Indla muva yi nkosi,' which means 'the king eats last,' " says Matshazi, referring to an ethnic group living in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Africans expect their kings to share the largesse in a trickle-down fashion, holding massive feasts for the elders of the tribe and making decisions only after the elders have formed a consensus, he says. "An African leader who feeds himself first, like [Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe], would be seen as a useless leader, because he doesn't share."

ONYO - PICHA ZINATISHA!!!!

Hasheem Thabit Aingia NBA Draft!!!!

Namtakia mafanikio mema. Tuone timu gani itamchukua, Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics au....?

Hasheem, Hongera kwa kuwa Pro Basketball player!

GOOD LUCK HASHEEM!

PRESS RELEASE

STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut junior men’s basketball player Hasheem Thabeet (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) has chosen to give up his final season of eligibility and enter his name into the 2009 NBA Draft, it was announced Tuesday.

“After spending time with my family and friends and speaking with Coach Calhoun, I have decided to give up my final year at UConn and enter my name in the 2009 NBA Draft,” said Thabeet. “I have had a great experience at Connecticut and cannot thank my coaches and teammates enough. I look forward to the challenge of playing professionally and know that my time here at UConn has prepared me to be successful in the future. I also want to thank all of the fans in Husky Nation that have followed my career, especially those from my homeland of Tanzania, and hope they will all be as supportive of me at the professional level as they have been to this point.”“Hasheem is more than ready to make the move to the next level,” said head coach Jim Calhoun. “He has been one of the most dominant defensive players in the history of college basketball and I am certain that where ever he ends up in the NBA, he is ready to be equally successful. He is a special player and even more special as a person. He will truly be remembered as one of the great players in UConn history, not only for his accomplishments, but also because of the type of person he is.”

Thabeet was named First Team All-American in 2008-09 by the NABC and the John R. Wooden Award. He was the NABC National Defensive Player of the Year and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in each of the past two seasons and was the 2008-09 BIG EAST Co-Player of the Year. He averaged 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.2 blocked shots per game (No. 2 nationally) in 2008-09 and helped lead the Huskies the 2009 NCAA Final Four and a 31-5 final record.Thabeet is the 11th player at UConn to declare early for the NBA Draft and nine of the previous ten were drafted in the first round. Eight of the ten were taken in the lottery portion of the first round

I’m not surprised at this. Thabeet is definitely a lottery pick and could be one of the top three picks. I’d expect Blake Griffin from Oklahoma to go No. 1 overall.
It could now be a long season for the Huskies as they will now need to replace Thabeet as well as A.J. Price, Craig Austrie and Jeff Adrien. Kemba Walker should fill-in nicely at the point and will need Stanley Robinson to play consistently like he did throughout the NCAA Tournament - soxanddawgs.com/2009-04-14 Thabeet is heading to the NBA.

Yalisemwa mengi.

Edward Moringe Sokoine: The Prime Minister people loved

2007-04-12
By Mangengesa Mdimi

Twenty-three years ago today, this nation lost treasure, a true son of our soil, the greatest patriot this country has ever produced, a man of great character, a leader dedicated to the development of his people and country. Edward Moringe Sokoine. May God Almighty rest his soul in eternal bliss. Amen.

Edward Moringe Sokoine was then Prime Minister, and what a Prime Minister he was. He commanded and won respect from over 98 per cent of all Tanzanians.

He deservedly won the respect of the then President, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere.

Edward Moringe Sokoine was a darling to all patriots because he was a great patriot, to all honest people because he was the most honest man, to all hard working people because he was himself the epitome of hard work, to all practical people because he was a man of few words. He was action-oriented. He wanted to see things done and done now, not tomorrow.

But Edward Moringe Sokoine was a terror to majambazi (bandits) because he hated them like poison, he was poison itself to embezzlers; and saboteurs feared him like death.

He was no friend to lazy indecisive workers and managers alike. He was a man of the people, indeed.

Sokoine died in a horrible road accident in mysterious circumstances at Dakawa area on the Dodoma - Morogoro Road that dark April day in 1984 at the tender age of 56 short years.

The news of his death stunned the country; people talked in subdued voices as if death was breathing down their own necks.

Because he was hard working, Mwalimu loved him. Those who had the opportunity to work with him told mourners at his funeral how many hours he was in his office and wondered whether he had any time for his family and private matters.

Because he was honest, Mwalimu trusted him with the management and administration of the government, and he passed with flying colours.

We were told no minister would take any issue to the President without consulting the Prime Minister first, and that Prime Minister was Edward Moringe Sokoine. He was, indeed, head of government. And the ministers respected him.

Sokoine was a darling of the people because he listened to them. He did not only sympathise with them, but he also fought hard to find solutions to their problems. One of the nagging problems in Dar es Salaam, for example, was and still is public and private transport.

Maybe we cannot talk of public transport these days because it is virtually non-existent. During his time, there was UDA (Usafiri Dar es Salalam), which could not cope with the growing population of the city.

It was Edward Moringe Sokoine, the Prime Minister (then) who allowed private minibuses (daladala), which were operating illegally, to operate officially.

These minibuses were charging five shillings per trip, no matter the distance in the city and the five shilling coin was nicknamed dala (I don?t know why), hence, daladala.

But then Sokoine directed that the vehicles ferrying people should be properly designed and the first vehicles to come out following the directive were named chai maharage (city people know why). He was a practical man. Daladala owners and Dar residents have a debt to pay to Sokoine.

Before he was appointed Prime Minister, Sokoine excelled himself as Minister for Defence and National Service.

He served as Prime Minister for a time and resigned to attend to his health during which time he pursued studies in Bulgaria. When he came back he was appointed Prime Minister again, which showed Mwalimu?s trust and confidence in him.

Edward Moringe Sokoine was dismayed at the way the government was being run. It was the time when corruption and all sorts of vices were at their peak.

It was the time when a few young men and women went about with stacks of currency notes tucked under their socks because there was no room in their pockets, but the majority went about with half empty bellies.

Sokoine came to the people`s rescue. ``The government has not gone to sleep,`` he said and launched the all famous Operation economic saboteurs (oparesheni wahujumu uchumi).

It was hard to believe what we saw, huge stocks of various consumer goods, including huge sums of hard cash, were thrown away on the roadsides or dumped into the ocean. The name Sokoine meant terror to them.

One of the areas of his priority was agriculture; Sokoine had vowed to improve this sector to modern standards. He worked hard against the removal of government subsidies to farmers and peasants.

His reward was the establishment of a University of Agriculture in his name - Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA).

Edward Moringe Sokoine was a soft spoken man and you could have mistaken him for a soft man. But his soft-spokenness was deceptive, because he meant every word that came out his mouth.

He was a man of his word and he made close follow ups to every directive he issued to ensure that it was carried out the way he wanted it.

A day before his death, he had promised people from his constituency, Monduli, who had gone to visit him during a Bunge session in Dodoma, that he would be in Monduli in two weeks time and that was when they should see him.

That was the one public promise he never fulfilled, because he died the following day when his car was involved in that fatal accident in Morogoro.

He surely must have made other promises and directives during the previous days or weeks, promises that he never fulfilled, and directives that might have died with him.

Sokoine`s death touched many a heart in Tanzania. But, apart from his family, I doubt if there was anyone more devastated by the sudden death of Edward Moringe Sokoine than Mwalimu Nyerere.

The only time I saw Mwalimu cry was at the death of Edward Moringe Sokoine. Those who did not see Mwalimu announcing the death of Sokoine, must have noticed the tremour in his voice.

Shall we ever have another Edward Moringe Sokoine in our country? Let us be guided by what he stood for and what he fought for. That is the best way to remember him.

Save Chez Vous in Boston!!!

Subject: PRESS CONFERENCE AT CHEZ VOUS ROLLER SKATING RINK ON APRIL 14, 2009 @ 6pm.
Dear friends, concerned members of the community and esteemed colleagues,

On Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 6pm an official press conference will be held at the Chez Vous Roller Skating Rink regarding the impending closure of the iconic venue. Currently owned by community activist Greer Toney, the Dorchester landmark has been an important area landmark since 1932. The city's only roller skating and entertainment center not only provides an alternative to the violence that plagues the surrounding neighborhoods it has been an external family to its loyal patrons for decades.

Chez Vous has hosted several anti-violence functions over the years, notably last year's "P.E.A.C.E. Night @ Chez Vous" which received positive reviews from The Boston Herald (Chris Faraone), and The Banner (Tierney McAfee). The event featured a video shoot by recording artist Blue Chip and focused on alternatives to gang violence and drug peddling through community empowerment. P.E.A.C.E. Night attracted the attention of many community leaders such as Cindy Diggs of PeaceBoston and Tina Cherry of the Louis D. Brown Institute for Peace.

The success of that event provided the foundation for "Another P.E.A.C.E Night @ Chez Vous" which was planned to expand on the positive theme of the original P.E.A.C.E. Night. Recording artist/actor Bow Wow, who was scheduled to appear as the event's celebrity guest and speaker, arrived at Chez Vous but left without making a public appearance at the direction of his road manager who, despite the presence of three hired security teams, both the City and State police and in-house security staff, deemed the venue "unsafe" for the artist's entry. Hundreds of fans, many who had waited hours to see their beloved star shine, left Chez Vous with tears and a general feeling of having been let down by their idol.

Greer Toney, in her commitment to bringing the Atlanta-based star to Boston to speak about the importance of education and unity, used the skating rink's mortgage allotment to secure Bow Wow's appearance. As a result of his absence Ms Toney was forced to refund the patron's fees, ultimately resulting in Chez Vous' fate. The 77-year old venue will be auctioned off on April 15, 2009 and Boston will lose one of its finest resources.

A day prior and the day after the event, in unrelated instances, two young men were killed on Boston 's streets. One of the dead, an aspiring NBA star, was a Chez Vous regular before relocating to California to pursue his dreams. He was, ironically, in the city briefly to assist his family with moving out west. The potential for increased violence on Boston 's troubled streets if Chez Vous' doors are closed are great. The skating rink not only provides a safe environment for its patrons who have few alternatives, its staff are active mentors and mediators in the gang infested Roxbury, Dorchester , and Mattapan neighborhoods.

I encourage you to come out to the planned press conference and voice your concerns. Your attendance is welcomed and needed. Frankly, this issue is larger than keeping a business open. It is about the future of the community and its children. Your voice ushered in the presidency of this nation's first Black Commander In Chief. Your voice elected the state's first Black governor. Your voice is powerful and, once again, must be heard. Your community MUST be protected! I look forward to seeing you at this very important forum.

Ruksa Kwenda Cuba! - Rais Obama

Aisei, Rais Obama kafanya mazito.

Obama to ease Cuba travel restrictions

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Obama administration has decided to loosen restrictions on travel and remittances to Cuba for Cuban-Americans, senior administration officials said Monday.

The changes in Cuban policy will be unveiled before President Obama's trip to the Summit of the Americas.

The White House plans to announce the change later Monday.

The decision represents a significant shift in U.S. policy toward Cuba.

It comes days before Obama leaves for the Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago.
Before he was elected, Obama promised to lower some of the barriers in Cuban-American relations.

Provisions attached to a $410 billion supplemental budget Obama signed in March also made it easier for Cuban-Americans to travel to Cuba and to send money to family members on the island. In addition, they facilitated the sale of agricultural and pharmaceutical products to Cuba.
The provisions loosened restrictions enacted by President Bush after he came to office in 2001.

Several members of Congress see broader relations with Cuba as vital to U.S. interests. A group of senators and other supporters unveiled a bill March 31 to lift the 47-year-old travel ban to Cuba.

"I think that we finally reached a new watermark here on this issue," said Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-North Dakota, one of the bill's sponsors.

Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Indiana, another sponsor of the bill, issued a draft report in February that said it was time to reconsider the economic sanctions. Lugar is the ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus also said it is time to change U.S. policy toward Cuba after returning from a meeting in Havana last week with both Fidel Castro and Cuban President Raul Castro.

Other lawmakers, however, remain adamantly opposed to easing sanctions on Cuba, arguing that such a move would only reward and strengthen the Castro regime.

Reps. Chris Smith, R-New Jersey, and Frank Wolf, R-Virginia, last week urged Obama to refrain from easing the trade embargo or travel restrictions until the Cuban government releases all "prisoners of conscience," shows greater respect for freedom of religion and speech and holds "free and fair" elections.

"Over the past 50 years, the Castros and their secret police have been directly responsible for killing thousands of nonviolent, courageous pro-democracy activists and for jailing and torturing tens of thousands of others. And they continue to this day to perpetrate their brutal crimes," Smith said.

Rep. Barbara Lee, D-California, chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said it makes no sense to continue what she characterized as a failed policy.

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but by any objective standard our current policy toward Cuba just hasn't worked. Simply put, it's time to open dialogue and discussion with Cuba," Lee said in a statement

Oprah Atetea Shule Yake Afrika Kusini

Oprah defends record of South African school

JOHANNESBURG (AP) - Oprah Winfrey acknowledged in a newspaper interview published Saturday that she has made several mistakes at her elite South African school, but said she remains proud of its success.

The recent expulsion of four girls and suspension of three others was the second scandal to hit the Leadership Academy for Girls, which opened in 2007 to groom bright children from deprived backgrounds for a brilliant career. A dorm matron is currently on trial accused of abuse and sexual assault.

"I have made several mistakes and one of them was being overprotective of the girls, which has led to an impression that the school is isolating them from society," Winfrey was quoted as saying in the Weekend Argus.

She said she had also underestimated the extent of homesickness among girls at the boarding school.

Last month, four students were expelled and three others suspended. South African media at the time said they were accused of trying to force students into relationships and to engage in sexual contact.

Winfrey herself hasn't given details of the misconduct. But she said in the newspaper interview that it was "insulting" that the family of one of the expelled girls had complained to the press even though she had been warned before about her behavior.

"Those girls in their own testimony during the (disciplinary) hearing said they knew they were breaking the rules and that they deliberately broke the rules," the talk show queen was quoted as saying.

The institution just outside Johannesburg opened with a blaze of publicity in January 2007 with about 150 girls in 7th and 8th grades. The Academy is expected to grow by one grade each year until it reaches full capacity in 2011, with approximately 450 girls in grades 7 through 12.
Winfrey poured $40 million into the 28-building campus, which is spread across 22 lush acres. It has computer and science labs, a library, theater and wellness center, all protected by strict privacy. Each girl lives in a two-bedroom suite - a far cry from their humble surroundings at home.

It's the fulfillment of a promise Winfrey made to former South African President Nelson Mandela and aims to give poor girls a quality education and prepare them for leadership positions in a country where state schools are struggling to overcome the legacy of white-minority rule.

"The majority of girls are thriving, really fulfilling the dream and vision I had," Winfrey told the newspaper. "They really have exceeded any expectations I had for them."
"In spite of everything that's happened, what keeps me inspired and hopeful is the heart of every girl, because they are wonderful, they are magnificent."

DNA Test Bongo - Matokeo Yanatisha!

Hata jamaa akimwaga nje mimba unaweza kupata! Mbegu zinakimbia!

DNA proof: 60pc of male parents not biological fathers

By Austin Beyadi

The Government Chemist Laboratory Agency has said that among the 250 deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples it received for disputed parentage cases in the year 2005/2006, at least 60 per cent of the cases proved that the male parents were not the biological fathers of the children.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on Friday, the Chief Government Chemist, Ernest Mashimba, said that the agency receives samples from the department of Social Welfare and registered lawyers and not from individuals.

He said that in 2005/6 it received 250 cases for DNA testing on parentage dispute whereby 150 fathers were proved to be only custodians and not biological fathers.

Only 100 fathers were proved to have biological linkage with the children.

Mashimba said in 2006/07 the agency received another 209 samples for DNA testing on disputed parentage cases. The result were that 53 per cent were biological fathers against 47 per cent, who were not.

``We also use DNA samples in criminal investigations, identification of victims of mass disasters, verifying the identity of human disorders, determining whether a biological material is of human origin, etc ,`` he said.

He said in criminal cases the agency received 28 samples in 2006/7 and that among them 21 percent of the samples involved the suspects with the incidents while 79 percent were not involved with the case.

He further said that during the same period, the agency also received 31 samples of rape cases and that after conducting the DNA test it was discovered that only 3 per cent of the samples were involved with the cases while 97 per cent were not involved with the criminal offences.

He said that every person is genetically unique and genetic compositions do not change through life.

Expounding, he said an individual inherits genetic compositions from both parents.

Mashimba said that in rape cases, semen samples can be used to link the suspect to the samples provided.

He said that in essence, DNA evidence is in principal becoming an irrefutable identification proof and it is useful for excluding the innocent from the case in question.

YO BRO!!

"This is the most powerful photo in the series. Remember they are not supposed to shake hands, but the two brothers couldn't resist the historic moment. The black royal cop never imagined in his wildest dream that he would usher a black American president into the British corridors of power. Nice."

Skandali ya Ngono kwenye Shule ya Oprah

Wasichana wanne wamefukuzwa kwenye shule ya fahari ya wasichana ya Oprah Winfrey huko Afrika Kusini. Wasichana watatu wamesimamishwa kwa muda. Kisa?

Nawapa pole hao wasichana. Wameharibu wenyewe! Wenyewe wanaomba wasamehewa kwani bado wanakuwa na walitaka kufanya 'experimentation' (majaribio)!

The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency

(kutoka kushoto - Anika Noni Rose, Jill Scott, Lucian Msamati)

Wadau, mkipata nafasi hebu tazama TV show, The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. Hivyo kila wiki tutafaidi show kutoka Botswana.

Nimefurahi kuona jinsi watu wanavyofurahi The No. Ladies Dectective Agency.

"Mke wangu amenishangaza. Tangu tuoane miezi minane iliyopita alinipa unyumba siku tuliyofunga ndoa tu. tangu hapo amekataa kabisa kunipa haki yangu.
