Wadau, Maggid Mjengwa na John Mashaka wana moani makali kuhusu 'KIKOMBE' cha babu wa Loliodo. Lazima nami niseme nina ndugu yangu ambaye alienda huko Loliondo kupata kikombe ili apone Kisukari. Alipoipata alijisikia freshi kwa siku kadhaa sasa analalamika maumivu. Nadhani hicho kikombe haimtimbu kila mtu, lakini wako waliopona. Je, hao ambao hawakupona baada ya kunywa hawakuwa na imani, au haikuwa na dawa ya kutosha? Na ni kweli kuwa watu nje ya nje wanatucheka kuwa tuna imani kali na uchawi.
Sioni ubaya kuwa na imani ya kikombe. Ila sasa wengine copycats wanaomwiga babu wanajitokeza kila kona na vikombe. Na watu wanakimbilia kunywa! Ni fesheni nini? Pia msishangee siku moja mkisikia kuna mtu kajitokeza na kikombe' watu wakanywa kwa wingi halafu walikufa kwa wingi kwa vile ilikuwa na sumu!

TUNAWAPITISHA watu wetu kwenye njia yenye giza. Kwenye njia yenye matope. Kwanini?
Socrates, mwanafalsafa wa Uyunani alipata kuonekana akimulika kurunzi mchana wa jua kali. Inaandikwa, kuwa Socrates yule alizunguka sokoni na kurunzi yenye kumulika. Watu walimwuliza, kulikoni? Socrates akawajibu; ”Kwenye nuru hii , kuna walio gizani.”
Kwa Socrates lilikuwa ni tendo la kifalsafa lenye kuelezea hali halisi. Hata katika dunia hii ya kisasa, bado tuna miongoni mwetu, walio gizani mchana wa jua kali. Angalia ya kwa ’ Babu’ wa Loliondo. Ndiyo, kuna wanaohitaji kumulikiwa mwanga.
Na kuna tofauti ya ujinga na upumbavu. Marehemu Mzee Jongo alipata kutamka; ” Kusoma si kuufuta ujinga, bali ni kuupunguza”. Kila mwanadamu ana ujinga wa jambo moja au mia moja. Kuwa na ujinga wa jambo si kosa, hata profesa anaweza asijue namna ya kuchochea kuni za kuchomea mhindi mbichi ukachomeka. Kijana wa darasa la saba anaweza kuwa hodari wa jambo hilo kumshinda profesa.
Lakini upumbavu ni ile hali ya mwanadamu kufanya jambo isivyotakiwa huku akiwa na uelewa wa namna ya kufanya inavyotakiwa. Huo ndio upumbavu. Na ndiyo maana binadamu kuitwa mpumbavu ni tusi. Kuitwa mjinga si tusi, kila mmoja ana ujinga wake. Kuwa na ujinga wa jambo fulani ni kutoelewa jambo hilo. Ni nani anayeelewa kila jambo?
Na mwanadamu unafanyaje unapoamka na kukuta dunia unayoishi ardhi yake imeanza kumegeka na kuchotwa na bahari? Kuna niliyemwuliza swali hilo. Naye akanijibu; ” Huo ndio utakuwa mwisho wa dunia!” Aliyenijibu alikuwa amechoka kufikiri. Nilidhani amgetamka, kuwa angeanza kujifunza kuogelea. Maana, kwa kuogelea majini angeweza kukutana na kisiwa, au nchi kavu.
Wanadamu tumejaliwa akili ili tuweze kufikiri. Na kufikiri ndiyo njia mojawapo ya kuiteka kweli. Kufikiri kunahamisha milima na hata kuiweka kando kuruhusu mwanga upite. Inakuwaje basi mwanadamu anapoacha kufikiri? Haya ya kwa ’ Babu’ wa Loliondo ni kielelezo cha Watanzania kuamua kuacha kufikiri. Kuna umma uliojifunika vilemba vya ujinga. Umma uko gizani, unahitaji mwanga.
Yumkini wakatokea Watanzania wenzetu, wakaoteshwa na Mungu juu ya dawa za tiba kwa mwanadamu. Na hapo wakaingiza suala la imani. Lakini, jambo hilo halituzuii wanadamu kuhoji na kudadisi. Ndiyo, kuuliza maswali. Na kwa Serikali, jambo hilo haliizuii kufuata taratibu zake za kawaida ikiwamo kufanyia utafiti jambo hilo na kutoa msimamo wa Kiserikali. Hata kama Watanzania watakuwa na uhuru wa kwenda kwenye tiba za imani, lakini msimamo wa Serikali uwepo. Na kwa wengi utabaki kuwa ndio mwongozo, maana, watakuwa wameufanyia utafiti.
Si tumemsikia yule nabii mwingine wa Tarakea, naye ni kijana wa miaka 28. Ikasemwa, kuwa naye kaoteshwa na Mungu dawa ya kutibu wagonjwa. Mpaka Serikali ilimpomzuia ili ifanye uchunguzi, tayari alikuwa na wagonjwa 100. Ndiyo, Watanzania tu wagonjwa tunaogombewa. Na viongozi wetu pia ni wagonjwa. Si tumewaona wakipanga foleni ya kikombe kwa Babu?
Katika dunia hii Serikali hupendwa na watu, lakini, si vema na busara, kwa serikali za dunia kutaka kujipendekeza kwa watu. Kuna mambo yenye kupendwa na watu, na watu wakawa na haraka ya kutaka kuyafanya. Lakini, kama serikali itahitaji kufuata taratibu ili kinachopendwa na watu kifanyike, basi, serikali haina namna nyingine, bali kufuata taratibu.
Si tuliona yale ya DECI. Waziri Mkuu Mizengo Pinda alisimamia taratibu, akasimamisha wimbi lile la DECI. Kuna wengi walishutumu, lakini , hao hao, leo wanaishukuru Serikali. Maana, DECI nayo ilikuwa ni Abrakadabra.
Na si juzi hapa tumemsikia Paroko wa Kigango cha Mt. Yohane wa Msalaba Parokoia ya Mbezi Luis Padri Vivian. Niweke wazi, Paroko yule amesema kile ambacho kuna wengi hawataki kukisikia. Ameusema ukweli wake. Ameifanya kwa dhati, kazi ya utumishi wa Mungu wake.
Paroko yule wa Mbezi Luis alitamka; "Sina chuki wala tatizo lolote na tiba ya Loliondo, lakini kama unataka kwenda lazima ujiulize maswali manne yafuatayo;
Kwanza, tiba inayotokana na miujiza ya Mungu lazima iwe endelevu isiwepo kwa kipindi kifupi tu.
Pili, watu wajiulize kama miujiza kutoka kwa Mungu huwa na masharti?
Tatu, wajiulize kama tiba hiyo inafanya kazi ndani ya Loliondo, kwanini isifanye kazi Dar es Salaam na kwingineko?
Nne, wajiulize kuhusu tiba hiyo ya magonjwa sugu ukiwemo ukimwi ni je, Mungu aliwaumba wanadamu na kisha kuamua kuwaangamiza? Au wanadamu wanaangamia kutokana na vitendo vyao vya ujanja ujanja?
Mwisho Paroko yule akasema; "Ukiishajiuliza maswali hayo na kujiridhisha kwa majibu utakayopata, basi, unaweza kufanya maamuzi ya kwenda Loliondo.
Ndiyo, tujiulize; katika mataizo yetu haya, tumechoka kufikiri? Tumechoka kuuliza maswali? Hapana. Tusichoke kuutafuta ukweli, hata kama umegubikwa na ukungu. Hivi ni Watanzania wangapi wamesikia au kusoma maelezo ya Mganga Mkuu wa Hospitali ya Mkoa wa Arusha, Mount Meru Dk. Toure?
Nahofia si wengi, maana, maelezo yake yaliyopaswa kuwa habari kubwa ya ukurasa wa mbele yalipewa nafasi ndogo sana kwenye moja ya magazeti ya kila siku. Tena yaliwekwa katika ukurasa wa pili ndani ya habari nyingine. Si tunafahamu, kuwa baadhi ya wanahabari nao wanachagiza ’ Abrakadabra’ za ’ Babu’ wa Loliondo. Zinauza magazeti, na msimu ndio huu!
Mganga Mkuu wa Mkoa wa Hospitali ya Mount Meru alisema, kuwa tangu tiba ya ’ Babu’ ianze, hajapata hata mgonjwa mmoja wa ukimwi aliyepata kikombe cha ’ Babu’ na kurudi hospitalini hapo kupimwa tena. Hivyo, mpaka hii leo hatuna ushuhuda wa kimaabara kwa maana ya hospitalini. Ushuhuda tunaousikia ni wa mitaani.
Ndiyo maana tiba ya ’ Babu’ itabaki kuwa ’ Abrakadabra’ mpaka hapo itakapothibitishwa vinginevyo kimaabara hospitalini na si kwenye vijiwe vya barabarani.
Halafu tunaambiwa, kuwa tiba ya ’ Babu’ inatibu kansa pia. Hivi Kliniki ya Kansa ya pale Ocean Road mpaka hii leo imeshindwa kuwapeleka kwa ’ Babu’ wagonjwa watano tu walio kwenye matibabu ya kansa. Waende huko wakapate kikombe halafu wachukuliwe vipimo tena tuone nguvu ya tiba ya ’ Babu’ katika kuwasaidia wagonjwa wa kansa.
Ndugu zangu, Mfalme Suleiman alimwambia Mola wake; ” Watu wangu wanaangamia kwa kukosa hekima”. NdiYo, Mfalme Suleiman alipoambiwa na Mola kitu cha kuchagua, basi, alichagua hekima ili aweze kuwaongoza watu wake.
Angalia leo, walio wagonjwa na kwenye hali ngumu za kiuchumi wanazidi kuwa wagonjwa na hali zao za kiuchumi zinazidi kuwa duni. Ndiyo, kuna wanaofunga safari zenye gharama kubwa kwenda Loliondo. Wanakwangua akiba zao. Kuna hata wanaokopa fedha ili waende Loliondo.
Ndiyo, wanakwenda kupata tiba isiyo na hakika katika wakati huu tunaozungumza. Kuna wagonjwa walioacha kutumia dawa zao. Wamerudi na kuanza upya. Kuna waliopoteza maisha. Inasikitisha sana. Ni nani wa kuwasaidia kuwamulikia mwanga? Naam. Kwenye nuru hii kuna walio gizani. Tuwasaidie.

I read with lot of interest Mr. Maggid Mujengwa’s article entitled “Ya Loliondo Na Umma Ulio gizani”, a philosophical description of a confused society. Mr. Mujengwa depicted Tanzania as a nation that is using a flashlight in a broad day light with a notion that, perhaps, it could aid her see better. Figuratively or philosophically speaking, Socrates the philosopher used this metaphor to describe a hopeless and a confused society. One question Mr. Mujengwa failed to address was the root cause of this confusion. How could Tanzanians be convinced that, flashlight is brighter than the sun? Is it because of ignorance, confusion or desperation?
Plato, one of the greatest philosophers to have ever lived, strongly advocated in favor of an examined life; An examination of one's life addresses fundamental questions such as: who am I, what do I want to do with my life, how will I know whether I have achieved my goals, what matters to me; wisdom; a feeling of accomplishment; wealth, power; social change or pleasure and how will I balance them. If you haven't asked yourself these questions, then life becomes meaningless. You become more like a boat in turbulent high seas without compass direction, going along with the tides and currents of the ocean. A boat that is destined for a clear tragic end of capsizing, Tanzania that is.
Tanzanians are not in control of their lives. Instead, they are controlled by the events of the day, and ignorantly perceiving flashlight to be more powerful than the sun, based on Socrates account on ignorance. As a nation, Tanzania has not asked itself these basic questions, because social-economic, hopelessness and despair amongst her people speak for itself. A sea of humanity flooding Loliondo, is a confirmation of the broken system. Her sick hopping from their hospital beds, carried in stretchers, just to have a sip of the wonder concoction is very troubling. This signifies the dying or non-existing healthcare system in Tanzania. Tanzania does not know where it is headed; it is a lost vessel sailing in the turbulent high seas without a direction, and only waiting to capsize
I must slightly differ with Mr. Mujengwa, based on my strong conviction, that, Babu Mwasapile’s patients are not uninformed, but rather hopeless, desperate, CONFUSED and poverty burdened men and women from all walks of life. Loliondo list of visitors is made up of the mighty and the powerful, the rich, the poor, scientists and herdsmen; famous and the little known peasants. Babu has received people who have made their way by selling their few worldly possessions, as well as the flamboyant tycoons arriving in style; in their private aircrafts, all with one goal; drinking the magical mixture, with hope ridding themselves of their excruciating illnesses. This is a national embarrassment, and depiction of Tanzania as a primitive and backward country in the eyes of the world
We are not talking about dumb, stupid, or simple-minded people; we are talking of brilliant and well educated individuals serving in the government, International, private and public agencies. We are talking of people who have been humbled by illnesses, and like anybody else, must heed the need to find treatment by standing in a long queue in the middle of nowhere; away from their posh homes, and comfort of their beds to find cure from the miraculous drink. We are talking of a hopeless and a desperate society on edge.
Desperation has no class, it has no social status or identity, it has no color or creed. It affects PhD holders and the illiterate alike. We must remember that, desperate and hopeless men do not value life; they have no shame or fear. Tell a man, who has exhausted all options to get rid of cancer, that his urine is the only cure to his excruciating illness. Even a King who desperately wants to live will heed the advice. These are the people flanking Babu of Loliondo’s compound trying to get rid themselves of terminal illnesses, endless pain, and misery.
Babu of Loliondo could not have emerged at a perfect time for the hopeless, when divine intervention is direly needed to save their souls. Babu has exposed our desperation, vulnerability and weakness as a society. He has exposed how useless education can be in the face of human despair. He has exposed how far we are lost in the turbulent high seas, and only going with the tide and flow. We are lost. Just like DECI which was a product of greed, ignorance and despair, Babu Liliondo’s purported magic cup is nothing but a tragic health and social a time bomb yet to explode!

You guys have jst based on one side,i.e. scientific analysis, what if it really cures lets say by at least 70% ?. Because if you are really ana African you must be aware that there are other things which happens in Africa alone, and because of your western colonized mind u call it uchawi jst because a mzungu has said so. Mfano, kuna watu wanatibu mtu aliyevunjika mfupa (mguu/mkono) kwa kutumia majani tu, anayashika na kumgusa mgonjwa na anatembea baada ya masaa machache. Retired pastor Ambilikile Masapila, alias Babu, is being unfairly targeted since his herbal medicine started drawing thousands of people from both within and outside Tanzania to the remote village of Samunge in Loliondo, Ngorongoro District.
The point being missed by the healer’s detractors is that at no time had Masapila advertised his services in the media.People are flocking to Samunge after learning from others of the effectiveness of Masapila’s medicine. The old man was leading a quiet life when the spotlight suddenly turned on him and he became the most sought-after person in Tanzania.
Many of these people turned to Babu as a last resort after modern medicine failed to cure their illnesses.
If Tanzanians believe that Masapila can cure afflictions that have troubled them for years, then so be it.
Various state agencies have confirmed that the medicine dispensed by the healer is harmless to humans, and this is a big blow to Masapila’s detractors who were claiming that he was providing “poison”. In fact, scientists have proven that the plant that Babu uses to prepare his wonder drug has medicinal properties that can cure several illnesses.
While Masapila is being demonised, other parts of the country teem with medicinemen and self-styled clergymen, who falsely claim they can cure every illness under the sun. Some of these people have become fabulously rich, but nobody is raising an eyebrow.Babu should be left to dispense his medicine to those who believe it can cure their illnesses.

Kinachosikitisha ni kuwa hiyo safari ya Loliondo ni ndefu na ngumu mno. Haifai kabisa kwa mtu mgonjwa mahutiti kupelekwa huko. Lakini ndugu zao wana imani kuwa miujiza itatokea na watapona. Watu ewengi wamekufa waite Loliondo safari ya kifo.
koma sababu watu tuna matatizo mengi. Kuna wanao kwenda Lourdes Ufaransa kwa imani ya kupona magonjwa sugu ya kizungu kama rheumatism, je huo nao ni uchawi? Au wanaochukua maji ya Zamzam wakienda hija Maka kwa imani ya kuwa yana nguvu ya kipekee, nayo tuite uchawi? Haya mambo ya imani tuachie wanaoteseka waamue jinsi ya kuponywa. Ni wazi kutatokea fursa katika masibu yao hiyo ni hali ya dunia. Ukiwa na imani nenda Loliondo, Lourdes n.k, yaweza kukusaidia. Lakini kama huna imani kama hao waandishi wasiende! Kunyoa au kusukuka ni uamuzi binafsi.

Utasikia kivuli cha Bikira Maria kimeonekana kwenye ukuta wa jengo fulani basi maelfu wanajazana huko kuomba wapone maradhi yao. Wazungu hawaiti uchawi bali imani na dini. Nani achekwe?

Wale wanaopinga historia inarekodi yote na mwisho tutawakumbuka kwa mchango wenu.
Mungu anapokuwa ni muhusika wa ufunuo kunakuwa na marupurupu mengi ya manufaa. Shetani anapokuwa amehusika huwa machafuko na kazi zote zingine mbaya zinajitokeza.
Kwa Babu imekuwa ni amani. Viongozi wa serikali wana amani na mapato yameongezeka kwa wahusika wote. Matumaini na Afya ndiyo baraka kubwa zaidi kwa watanzania wengi tu. Hata ndoa zimepona!!!!!

Kama ndugu yako hakupona, basi ni b ahati mbaya maana hata watu wanaopewa rufaa kwenda India kwa matibabu wanakufa na wengine wanapona.
Nimesikia kituko cha mwaka hapa Dar. Kuna kanisa moja lililopo Mwenge ambaye kiongozi wake ni mashuhuru kwa kumtukana Rais kwamba jumapili iliyopita waliendesha maombi kumlaani Mchungaji Masapile na kumuombea afe. Pia wakaomba kuwa na viongozi wote waliokunywa dawa hiyo wakapona wapatikane na magonjwa mabaya zaidi.
Sasa nikajiuliza mbaya zaidi ni nani? anayeponya au anayeua?
Mtu mwingine akaniambia kuna makanisa kadhaa (ya kiroho) yanayomuombea Mchungaji masapile afe. Kanisa moja lilopo hapa Dar lililipuka moto na kuungua wakati wanamuombea Babu afe. Swali jingine la kujiuliza ni hivi ni nani aliyewapa hawa viongozi wa makanisa yanayojiita ya kiroho mamlaka ya kuwa ndiyo waamuzi wa kilicho sahihi kiimani?
Makanisa mengi ya "kiroho" yamejaa tuhuma za utapeli wa pesa na uzinzi hata kutoka kwa baadhi ya viongozi. Ndoto na maono ya ajabu ajabu ya kuwatishia waumini wao kila kukicha.

Tanzania is today the cynosure on which the eyes and ears of the world are trained – thanks to a phenomenon that's popularly known as 'Babu-wa-Loliondo na Kikombe Chake.' This refers to the miracle cure that comes out of gulping down a mug-full of a concoction brewed by boiling the roots of the 'Mugariga' tree (Carissa spinarum Linn.).
Apparently, for it to be effective, the concoction must be dispensed by the hand of the anointed one, retired Lutheran Pastor Ambilikile Masapila,75, using a mysterious mug to draw the stuff from containers and pour it into other mugs that are handed out to the ailing by the pastor's aides.
'Costing' a mere Sh500 a shot, the seemingly divine potion 'cures' a range of frightening afflictions, including HIV/Aids, cancer, diabetes, asthma, and heart conditions, including hypertension.
The 'business' – for lack of a better term – has reportedly garnered Sh50m in the six months or so it's been roaring. Sh20m of that is for his aides, and another Sh20m for the Church.
The remaining Sh10m goes to the ex-pastor... He badly needs it, considering the dilapidated building he's been living in – and that he was jobless – at least until six months ago!
But, that's another story.
The story here today is that, within a short few months, millions of people have come to hear about the Babu-wa-Loliondo – and half-the-world's already beating a path to his door for a mug-full of the stuff. People've travelled from as far as Mozambique, The Netherlands, the Americas and God-knows-where (as if guided by the Messianic Star of Biblical fame) to partake of Babu's mug-full.
Not only have Kenyans also made the mecca-like trip... I'm told the Kenyan tourism authorities are already taking full advantage of the phenomenon, virtually snatching the 'tourism-bread' out of their Tanzanian counterparts' mouth... 'Come to Kenya – and access Babu-wa-Loliondo's miracle cure,' they are advertising in the tourist-source markets abroad!
I'm not surprised. That was how they got tourists flocking to Kenya with their 'Come to Kenya and see/climb Mt Kilimanjaro' promotional ploy, taking full advantage of the Tanzanian prime tourist attraction while we slept!
But, again, that's a tale fit for another day... (as is the suggestion that the Babu concoction must be scientifically proven first. What baloney...)
If nothing else, the Babu-wa-Loliondo phenomenon has demonstrated in the most graphic manner and style the sick nation that Tanzania is today! And, the frightening degree to which our medical services have crumpled.
Before the Babu came on the scene like the warrior-saviour he's rapidly proving to be, our leaders sneaked out of Tanzania, routinely catching the night-flight to India, RSA and elsewhere for medical attention at public expense. Ordinary Tanzanians couldn't do that, and had to make do with corrupt public 'hospitals,' extortionist private hospitals and abracadabra sangomas...
Now that Divine Providence has brought us succour in the person of Babu Masapila, the very same leaders are elbowing ordinary Tanzanians out of the way to Loliondo, unfairly crowding them out of the scramble for a mug-full! Irony of Fate? Greed Personified? I don't know!
But, look at it this way... Top public leaders – including ministers, Judges, MPs, etc – are forging their way (literally and figuratively) to the head of the queue for ailments that may have been caused by overindulgence, loose living off the fat of society. On the other hand, ordinary Tanzanians cannot elbow them out of the way for treatment abroad...
Does this mean that the Babu-wa-Loliondo is the leveller whom we needed to bring equality in Society? After all, we're all of the sick nation that our mother country has become. Cheers!
