WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama had to get 12 stitches in his lip after taking an elbow during a basketball game yesterday morning, White House officials said.

"After being inadvertently hit with an opposing player's elbow in the lip while playing basketball with friends and family, the president received 12 stitches today," press secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement. "They were done in the doctor's office located on the ground floor of the White House."

That statement did not say whose elbow was involved, but one denial already had come in: Reggie Love, the former Duke University basketball player who is an Obama aide, was on the court but said it was not him.

Maybe Michelle Obama's brother, Craig Robinson, the basketball coach at Oregon State University, was the culprit? Obama was, after all, playing with "members of his family" at Fort McNair in Washington.

Obama's aunt can stay in U.S.

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama's Kenyan aunt can stay in the United States, a U.S. immigration judge has ruled, ending a more than six-year legal battle over her status.
Judge Leonard Shapiro made the decision Friday, court officials told CNN.

Two government sources confirmed Monday that the ruling will give legal status to Zeituni Onyango, 57, allowing her to remain in the country.

Onyango's attorneys held an afternoon news conference on the matter in Ohio.
Onyango, who is the half-sister of the president's late father, applied for political asylum in 2002 due to violence in her native Kenya. She was a legal resident of the United States at the time and had received a Social Security card a year earlier.

Onyango's asylum request was turned down in 2004. She appealed the rejection of her request twice, but was denied each time and ordered to leave the country. Onyango remained in the country illegally until April of 2009, when Judge Shapiro gave her permission to stay in the United States while he considered her case.In February, Onyango arrived at an immigration court in a wheelchair and testified before the judge for more than two hours, her representative, Amy Cohn, told CNN at the time. Two doctors, including her personal physician, also testified on her behalf. Onyango's medical condition was part of her legal defense against expulsion.
White House officials said during the appeals that Obama was staying out of the matter.

"The president believes that the case should run its ordinary course," the officials said.
Onyango's immigration status came to light in the final days of the 2008 presidential race.

Obama to ease Cuba travel restrictions

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Obama administration has decided to loosen restrictions on travel and remittances to Cuba for Cuban-Americans, senior administration officials said Monday.

The changes in Cuban policy will be unveiled before President Obama's trip to the Summit of the Americas.

The White House plans to announce the change later Monday.

The decision represents a significant shift in U.S. policy toward Cuba.

It comes days before Obama leaves for the Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago.
Before he was elected, Obama promised to lower some of the barriers in Cuban-American relations.

Provisions attached to a $410 billion supplemental budget Obama signed in March also made it easier for Cuban-Americans to travel to Cuba and to send money to family members on the island. In addition, they facilitated the sale of agricultural and pharmaceutical products to Cuba.
The provisions loosened restrictions enacted by President Bush after he came to office in 2001.

Several members of Congress see broader relations with Cuba as vital to U.S. interests. A group of senators and other supporters unveiled a bill March 31 to lift the 47-year-old travel ban to Cuba.

"I think that we finally reached a new watermark here on this issue," said Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-North Dakota, one of the bill's sponsors.

Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Indiana, another sponsor of the bill, issued a draft report in February that said it was time to reconsider the economic sanctions. Lugar is the ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus also said it is time to change U.S. policy toward Cuba after returning from a meeting in Havana last week with both Fidel Castro and Cuban President Raul Castro.

Other lawmakers, however, remain adamantly opposed to easing sanctions on Cuba, arguing that such a move would only reward and strengthen the Castro regime.

Reps. Chris Smith, R-New Jersey, and Frank Wolf, R-Virginia, last week urged Obama to refrain from easing the trade embargo or travel restrictions until the Cuban government releases all "prisoners of conscience," shows greater respect for freedom of religion and speech and holds "free and fair" elections.

"Over the past 50 years, the Castros and their secret police have been directly responsible for killing thousands of nonviolent, courageous pro-democracy activists and for jailing and torturing tens of thousands of others. And they continue to this day to perpetrate their brutal crimes," Smith said.

Rep. Barbara Lee, D-California, chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said it makes no sense to continue what she characterized as a failed policy.

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but by any objective standard our current policy toward Cuba just hasn't worked. Simply put, it's time to open dialogue and discussion with Cuba," Lee said in a statement

Katuni ya Kibaguzi?

Viongozi wa weusi Marekani wanasema kuwa hii katuni ni ya kibaguzi na kuwa jamaa anataka Rais Obama auliwe! Bwana Delonas anakataa tena anacheka huko akisema kuwa alikuwa na maana ya kesi ya yule nyani aliyeuawawa huko Connecticut juzi.

Nampinga kwa sababu, polisi anasema "itabidi wamtafute mtu mwingine kuandika stimulus bill". Aliyeandika stimulus bill ya sasa ni Rais Obama na siyo nyani. Hapa Marekani tangu zamani watu weusi wanafananishwa na manyani. Hata kwenye kampeni wabaguzi walikuwa na sanamu za nyani na kusema ni Obama. Na yule nyani wa Connecticut alihusika nini na stimulus bill?

SOMEONE WROTE:After watching the final debate last week it dawned on me that Obama could actually win this thing! If that happens there will be a lot of people (some of our co-workers included) who will be afraid that an Obama presidency will usher in the end of days. They'll be watching us on November 5th (the day after the election) for 'signs of the end' times. To keep the peace and keep a lot of folks from getting nervous, I think we should develop a list of acceptable celebrations and
behaviors we should probably avoid - at least for the first few days:

1) No crying, hugging or shouting 'Thank you, Lord' – at least not in public.

2) No high-fives - at least not unless the area is clear and there are no witnesses.

3) No laughing at the McCain/Palin supporters.

4) No calling in sick on November 5th. They'll get nervous if too many of us don't show up.

5) We're allowed to give each other knowing winks or nods in passing. Just try to keep from grinning too hard.

6) No singing loudly, 'We've Come This Far By Faith' (it WILL be acceptable to hum softly).

7) No bringing barbeque ribs or fried chicken for lunch in the company lunchroom for at least a week (no chitterlings AT ALL! This may make us seem too ethnic.)

8) No leaving Kool-aid packages at the water fountain.

9) No Cupid Shuffle during breaks (this could indicate a little too much excitement.)

10) Please no Moving On Up music (we are going to try to remain humble.)11) No grits, chicken & waffles and half & half for breakfast in the office12) No Obama Shuffle on the back parking lot or down the hall to the conference room.
13) No singing loudly…"Ain't No stopping Us now"
14) No block parties circling the perimeter of the White (Black) House

If I've missed anything, feel free to add to the list. I just want to make sure we're all on the same page when Obama brings this thing home on November 5th. Now let's make this thing happen!!!
