9 tons of fake medicine seized in East Africa
August 26, 2010 10:54 a.m. EDT
(CNN) -- Authorities have seized 9,072 kilograms (20,000 pounds) of counterfeit medicine and arrested 80 people suspected of illegal trafficking in six East African nations, Interpol said Thursday.
More than 300 premises were checked or raided in the two-month operation across Uganda, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zanzibar, according to a news release from the international police agency.
The confiscated loot included anti-malaria drugs, vaccines and antibiotics. There was also a significant quantity of government medicines diverted to illegal resale markets.
It was the third such seizure operation in as many years in East Africa, intended to curb the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit medical products.
Representatives of the six nations are scheduled to meet in Zanzibar next week to discuss the seizure and the extent of the counterfeiting problem, Interpol said.
The World Health Organization defines counterfeit drugs as "medicine, which is deliberately and fraudulently mislabelled with respect to identity and/or source."
Counterfeiting can apply to both brand-name and generic products, and forged products may include those with the correct ingredients or with the wrong ingredients, without active ingredients, with insufficient active ingredients, or with fake packaging, WHO says.
The United Nations agency created a global task force in 2006 to deal with the problem, which has been growing as international markets expand and become globalized and internet commerce has taken off.
The fake products can prove detrimental to public health efforts in disease-ridden countries and in worst-case scenarios can cause death, according to the WHO task force.

U.S. Embassy Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Warden Message - Snatch and Grab Robberies
August 17, 2010
This Warden Message is being issued as a reminder of the continuing
problem of snatch and grab robberies in Dar es Salaam. Most recently,
occupants of a vehicle have grabbed bags, purses, and backpacks from
pedestrians and bicyclists traveling on the side of the road. Many of
these robberies occurred on the Msasani peninsula, specifically on Yacht
Club Road, Chole Road, and Haile Selassie Road. The latest incident
occurred the night of August 15 on Mahando Road near the Sea Cliff
Hotel. Several of these robberies occurred after the victim visited the
Barclay's bank in Slipway.
The U.S. Embassy reminds U.S. citizens to be aware of your surroundings
at all times and to be especially alert to individuals paying an undue
amount of attention to your activities. We also strongly advise against
carrying bags or purses while on foot or bicycle. If that is
unavoidable, be sure to carry the bag in front of you or on your side
furthest away from traffic. Bags that are nondescript, or even worn or
dirty in appearance, may be less appealing to criminals.
Facing oncoming traffic as you walk may allow you to anticipate a
robbery attempt and take evasive action. It is wise to avoid walking
after dark.
If you experience a snatch and grab robbery, release your belongings to
avoid physical injury. By hanging on, you risk being dragged down the
street (as has happened already), or getting caught under the rear wheel
of the car. To avoid losing your cell phone along with your bag or
purse, carry it in a pocket or somewhere else on your person.

Rais Kikwete Alivyoanguka Jukwaani Jangwani
http://www.jamiiforums.com/uchaguzi-tanzania-2010/70521-kikwete-aanguka-ghafla-jangwani-22.html

masomo kero hizo zinabakia pale pale.
ukitaka kumuua nyani usimtizame usoni .
serikali kuingia gharama yeyote.

Ramadan Begins Today, Muslims Start the Month of Fasting
Ramadan Mubarak!
Today, Wednesday, is the first day of the Islamic month of Ramadan (Ramadhan), of the year 1431 Hijriya, corresponding to August 11, 2010.
Adult Muslims all over the world start fasting this month as required by their religion. They abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, and having sexual activity from dawn to the sunset.
Fasting is the fourth way of worshipping God after the proclamation of faith, performing prayers, giving the poor tax (alms or charity), and followed by the pilgrimage, Haj.

Shoga Aua Shoga Mwenzake Boston
pichani Shoga Eunice Field (alieykaa), akisikiliza mashitaka dhidi yake mahakamani leo
Eunice Field, 54, appeared in Brockton District Court today where a not guilty plea to a charge of murder was entered on her behalf. Judge Julie S. Bernard ordered Field held without bail.
Field allegedly murdered 62-year-old Lorraine Wachsman inside Wachsman's Bridgewater condo on Monday. Assistant District Attorney Thomas Flanagan said in court today that Field stabbed Wachsman three to four times in the back and neck with a serrated knife.
Flanagan also said that Field left a note she hoped her ex-girlfriend would find. In it, Flanagan said, Field wrote that Wachsman got what she deserved for "taking away the love of her life.''

Nikienda kupanda ferry kwenda st. Maarten.
Niko kwenye ferry.
Hapa niko Beach nikijiandaa kwenda snorkeling. Niliona samakai wazuri kweli, wenye marangi rangi. Tena walikuwa karibu na ufukwe.

Anguilla Festival 2010
Mshindi akiimba wimbo wake.
"YAH MAN! Anguilla kuzuri!"
Nadhani alijua mimi sikumtambua.
Habari zaidi baadaye.

Rest in Peace Mzee Godfrey Binaisa - Aliwahi kuwa Rais wa Uganda
Mzee Godfrey Binaisa
(1920 -2010)
Wadau, mnakumbuka siku Radio Tanzania walimweka Mzee Godfrey Binaisa kwenye redio kutangaza kwa waGanda na WaTanzania, "THE REIGN OF TERROR IS OVER! THE REIGN OF TERROR IS OVER!" ?
Rest in Eternal Peace Mzee Binaisa.

Former President of Uganda Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa QC has died. He
was 90, he died this morning at his home in Kizungu Zone, Makindye
Division, a Kampala suburb.
President Binaisa is said to have died in his sleep. “We are gutted
and really depressed,” said Nakalema Binaisa, a daughter to the former
President, struggling to hold back tears.
Ms Nakalema told of how her father went to bed last night “smiling”
but did not wake-up this morning. “We went to the hospital on Monday
and we were told that his blood sugar levels had gone down,” she said.
“We went back home and he seemed alright. He was smiling last night
when he went to sleep.
I remember he called the nurse to check on him before he went to
sleep. This morning he did not wake-up.” The former leader had been
reportedly battling diabetes.
His body was taken to Mulago Hospital for a post-mortem. Ms Nakalema
said her father’s physicians suspect the former leader could have
succumbed after a cardiac arrest.
“His heart just stopped beating,” she told Daily Monitor in an
interview.
“He was always with us and we had so many plans. He was a fabulous
human being; we are so gutted.”
Arrangements are under way for a state funeral for the former leader.
Officials at the Office of the President and the Prime Minister’s
Office are coordinating burial arrangements.
Educated at King's College Budo and Makerere College, the Binaisa
studied at the law school at King's College London and in 1955 was
appointed a Queen's Counsel (QC).
Binaisa had joined Uganda People's Congress which in 1962 formed the
first post-independent government of Uganda. During this regime, he
was appointed Attorney General.
Following the overthrow of Idi Amin in 1979, Binaisa returned to
Uganda. He was appointed President of Uganda by the National
Consultative Commission, which was then the supreme governing body of
the Uganda National Liberation Front (UNLF), a coalition of former
Ugandan exiles who had helped remove Idi Amin.
The Presidential Commission ruled Uganda until the December 1980
general elections. Binaisa had joined, and was made vice president of
the Uganda Patriotic Movement. The elections were won by Milton
Obote's Uganda Peoples Congress.
However, the results were disputed, leading President Museveni to
launch a guerilla rebellion, which led him to power in 1986.

Kisiwa cha Anguilla kinavyoonekana kutoka angani.
