Mbona hawaji juu!??

CNN Camerawoman Assaulted At GOP Convention

http://www.webpronews.com/cnn-camerawoman-assaulted-at-gop-convention-2012-08
By Amanda Crum
An African-American camerawoman who was attending the Republican National Convention for CNN was assaulted yesterday by a man who threw peanuts at her and yelled loudly, “This is how we feed animals”. He was promptly escorted out.

Journalist David Shuster was the first to announce the news that something had gone down by posting it on Twitter. He has since updated his feed with confirmations from CNN that an incident did occur and that one other person was eventually ejected from the convention.

“CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon. CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment,” the network’s statement read.

While CNN’s statement on the matter was decidedly vague, officials at the convention also released a statement which said, in no uncertain terms, that they would not put up with such behavior.

“Two attendees tonight exhibited deplorable behavior. Their conduct was inexcusable and unacceptable. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated.”

Polisi Waua Morogoro Leo!

An Important Lesson!

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, th
e donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

MORAL :
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries - Most never happens.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less from people but more from God.

You have two choices... smile and close this page, or pass this along to someone else to share the lesson .

God bless us all!

Wizi Bandarini Dar!

Duh!

Tanzania Suspends Port Chiefs over Cargo Theft Allegations

DAR ES SALAAM (Reuters) - Tanzania has suspended the head of its ports authority and six other senior port officials over allegations of cargo theft and embezzlement of public funds, the transport ministry and local media said on Friday.
The government is struggling to crack down on corruption in ministries and state institutions, with the public losing patience at the slow pace of change.
Investors have long complained of graft as one of the main reasons for the high cost of doing business in east Africa's second-biggest economy.
Tanzania's main port, in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, which serves six landlocked countries, has often been dogged by allegations of inefficiency and corruption.
It has been losing its market share of international cargo to other ports in the region like Kenya's Mombasa and Mozambique's Beira ports, the transport ministry says.
Transport Minister Harrison Mwakyembe has suspended the director-general of the state-run Tanzania Ports Authority, Ephraim Mgawe, and his two deputies while an investigation is carried out, the ministry said in a statement on its website.
The manager of the port's aviation fuel depot, the head of the port's oil jetty and the jetty's engineer were also suspended, it said.
Local media quoted Mwakyembe as saying that up 40 containers loaded with fabrics were reported stolen, and that port officials were under-declaring fuel quantities leaving the port.

"COUNTRIES SHUNNING OUR PORT"

"Containers are being stolen like peanuts. Right now the people of Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo are no longer using Dar es Salaam and are going to Mombasa, Beira and Durban," he was quoted as saying in newspaper Mwananchi.
The suspended officials were not immediately available for comment.
In one instance a container with goods worth $182,000 owned by a trader from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) was stolen, the state-run Daily News quoted Mwakyembe as saying.
"It is alarming that containers are getting lost at the Dar es Salaam port, and as a result traders from neighbouring countries are shunning our port ... we cannot keep quiet," he said.
The port serves Malawi, Zambia, the DRC, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda, It handled 3.275 million tonnes of cargo from neighbouring countries in 2011-12, up 106,000 tonnes from the previous year, according to data from the transport ministry.
President Jakaya Kikwete sacked six ministers in May and several senior officials have been suspended in the past few months over graft allegations, including the head of the state-run power company in July.
"Many government institutions have been underperforming and there have been graft allegations, yet no action has previously been taken," Benson Bana, head of the University of Dar es Salaam's political research think-tank, REDET, told Reuters.
"We still have a long way to go to minimise corruption, especially in the public sector. People are now talking about grand corruption, it's no longer the petty corruption of the past."

Eithipia PM Meles Zenawi is Really Dead!!!

The Late PM Meles Zenawi

Meles Zenawi, Ethiopian Leader, Dies at 57

By JEFFREY GETTLEMAN

Published: August 21, 2012

Meles Zenawi, Ethiopia’s technocratic but repressive prime minister, who lifted his country from the ruins of civil war and transformed it into one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies and one of the United States government’s closest African allies, died on Monday, state television reported. He was 57.

Ethiopian authorities said he had died in a hospital “abroad” – A European Commission spokesman told reporters that it was in Brussels -- just before midnight after getting a secondary infection. His failing health had been shrouded in mystery for months.

A former rebel leader who had dropped out of medical school in the 1970s to fight Ethiopia’s former Communist government, Mr. Meles was considered one of Africa’s shrewdest and most intelligent leaders. He was known to be a voracious reader with a steel-trap mind who could rapidly digest mountains of statistics and quote large chunks of Shakespeare. He worked closely with Washington to combat Muslim extremism in the Horn of Africa, though there were growing complaints, even among his backers, about his penchant for violently quashing any dissent.

World Leaders React to PM's Death
Kutoka BBC.com

Meles death: Leaders' reaction African and other leaders have been reacting to the news that Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has died at the age of 57. He was one of the continent's most prominent leaders and had dominated Ethiopian politics for more than 20 years.

Raila Odinga, Kenyan Prime Minister

Meles Zenawi was a great leader, an intellectual, someone who was very dedicated to pan-Africanism. One will remember him for the great effort he put in to transforming the Ethiopian economy.

One fears for the stability of Ethiopia upon his death because you know that the Ethiopian state is fairly fragile and there is a lot of ethnic violence... I don't know that [Ethiopian politicians] are sufficiently prepared for a succession: this is my fear, that there may be a falling out within the ruling movement.

Jacob Zuma, South African President

It is an absolute tragedy for Africa and the people of Ethiopia to mourn such an exceptional leader who contributed as an active role-player in various continental and global initiatives.

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi had been a strong leader, not only for his country but on the African continent, acting as mediator on numerous talks, particularly in the Horn of Africa region.

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia

Meles Zenawi was an economic transformer, he was a strong intellectual leader for the continent. In our regional meetings he stood out because of his intellect and his ability to respond and to lead dialogue on matters relating to African development. He will be missed in all of our meetings and all of our endeavour.

I don't have fears [over the transition] because I believe there are many other leaders in Ethiopia who will get the support of regional leaders to make the transformation that is necessary, moving towards an open society.

Barnaba Benjamin, South Sudanese Information Minister

It's a very, very sad day for the people of the Republic of South Sudan and the people of the East African region as a whole. This has been a tremendous nationalist leader, a president who had always let peace come to his neighbours.

We in South Sudan in particular, consider Ethiopia and especially Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, a strategic ally that (who) always never let a friend down. Indeed we greatly mourn him and we extend our extensive condolences to the people of Ethiopia.

European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso

Prime Minister Meles was a respected African leader. He demonstrated his strong personal commitment over many years to improving the lives of not just his own but all African peoples, through his work on African unity, climate change, development and in promoting peace and stability, particularly in the Horn of Africa.

I sincerely hope that Ethiopia will enhance its path of democratisation, upholding of human rights and prosperity for its people, and of further regional stabilisation and integration."

David Cameron, British Prime Minister

Prime Minister Meles was an inspirational spokesman for Africa on global issues and provided leadership and vision on Somalia and Sudan.

His personal contribution to Ethiopia's development, in particular by lifting millions of Ethiopians out of poverty, has set an example for the region. Our thoughts are with his family and with the nation of Ethiopia. He will be greatly missed.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair

It is with great sadness that I learned of Meles Zenawi's death. He was a hugely significant figure in Ethiopia's history, in particular helping guide his country from extreme poverty to an era of economic growth and development.

My deepest condolences go to his family and the people of Ethiopia.

Kenyan Honeymooners Missing in Zanzibar Ferry Accident

If you have info, contact the Kenya High Commission in Dar: info@kenyahighcom.org

URGENT APPEAL:
PLEASE HELP FIND THE KIRIMIS.
Martin Kirimi and Mary Mwangi are Kenyans, newlywed and were on honeymoon in Zanzibar. They haven't been heard of since the Zanzibar ferry accident. If you have any information, please contact the email address on the poster.

The MV Skagit sank in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Zanzibar on July 19, 2012.

http://swahilitime.blogspot.com/2012/07/ajali-ya-mv-skagitkalama.html

 ****************************************************************

A Kenyan couple on honeymoon in Tanzania have gone missing since a ferry disaster in Zanzibar that killed 128 people.
Mr Martin Kirimi and his wife of three weeks, Mary Mwangi, had told relatives and friends that they would take a bus from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam and then the ferry to Zanzibar for their honeymoon.
Mr Kirimi from Nyambene in Meru County to the east, and his newly-wed wife, Mary, from Karatina in the central Nyeri County, were last heard of when they left for their 10-day honeymoon in Zanzibar.
Now relatives and friends fear the two may have been aboard the ill-fated ferry that sunk off the shores of Zanzibar two weeks ago.
Mr Kirimi, 30, was a nurse at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi while his wife was a kindergarten teacher in Westlands area of the capital city.
On Thursday, Mr Maina Kariuki, Mr Kirimi’s brother-in-law, told the Daily Nation newspaper they last talked on phone just before the couple entered Tanzania.
“We spoke around 9.21am when they were at the Namanga border. He promised to buy a mobile phone sim card while in Dar then he would call me to tell me the number they would be using while on honeymoon in Zanzibar,” said Mr Kariuki.
"They wanted to enjoy their privacy and ensure people would not disturb them. But Martin never called back. We are not sure if they arrived in the Tanzanian capital although the Dar Express bus company has told us that all passengers arrived safely at 9pm.”
The couple had planned to go to Zanzibar through Dar es Salaam by road to enjoy the scenery, use the ferry to the island and then come back by air, he said.
The Kirimis celebrated their wedding at the Seagull Hotel on Thika Road, spent two nights at another local hotel and on the evening of July 16, Mary’s sister hosted a dinner for the newlyweds at her Kasarani home in Nairobi.
“Martin and Mary were both excited,” said Mary’s sister, Priscillah Mwangi, barely able to conceal her distraught state.
That was the last time she saw her sister and her brother-in-law.
What is not clear is if the couple spent the night in Dar or proceeded to the Tanzanian archipelago.

Accra, Ghana (CNN) -- Thousands of mourners gathered Friday in the West African nation of Ghana to ay their respects to the late President John Atta Mills, as his funeral was held in the capital, Accra.

Mills died last month at age 68, prompting outpourings of grief from many Ghanaians.

Ghanaians from all walks of life, many dressed in the traditional black and red of mourning, thronged Independence Square in Accra to witness the ceremony, in a show of national unity.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was among the many foreign dignitaries who traveled to Ghana for the funeral.

Ghana in mourning after president dies Ghana's Deputy Minister of Information Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa said 67 foreign delegations were represented from all over the world.

More than 15 heads of state, including almost all the West African leaders, attended the ceremony, which ended with the release of 100 doves into the air.

After the ceremony, the casket was laid to rest near Osu Castle, the seat of government where Mills had lived and worked since he became president.

The late president's body was laid out for public viewing Wednesday and Thursday. Some of the visiting heads of state took turns to file past the body Friday morning.

Giant screens were set up around the country for those who could not travel to Accra to watch the ceremony.

One Ghanaian mourner at the funeral said he prayed for the sense of unity that has followed Mills' death to continue.
"I'm confident we will have an even more peaceful election this December because most Ghanaians I have spoken to say they enjoy the atmosphere and will urge the politicians to keep it that way", he said.

Mills died suddenly at a military hospital a few hours after becoming ill, his Chief of Staff John Henry Martey Newman said in a statement at the time. The president had denied rumors about his health for months before his death.

John Dramani Mahama, formerly Ghana's vice president, was sworn in as the country's new president within hours of his death on July 24.

Taking office, he paid tribute to Mills as a "prince of peace" who "brought a distinctive insight into Ghanaian politics."

Mills, a former law professor and a tax expert, was Ghana's vice president from 1997 to 2000.

He became president in 2009, narrowly winning a runoff vote, having unsuccessfully run for the top office in 2000 and 2004.

Before his political career, he taught at the University of Ghana and also was a visiting lecturer at Temple University in Pennsylvania and Leiden University in the Netherlands.

Mills' death came several days after he celebrated his 68th birthday. He had said he would run for re-election in December.

U.S. President Barack Obama met with Mills when he visited Ghana in July 2009. Obama praised the country as a model for democracy and stability when Mills visited Washington this year, saying that it had become "a wonderful success story economically on the continent."
British Prime Minister David Cameron described Mills as "a tireless defender of democracy in West Africa and across the continent."

Part of a former British colony, Ghana was among the first African countries to gain independence, in 1957. It endured a series of coups before a military dictator, Jerry Rawlings, took power in 1981. Rawlings led Ghana through a transition to democracy about 10 years later.

Megabus yapata Ajali llinois

Meganus Wreckage in  Litchfield, Illinois
Kutoka Newsday.com

LITCHFIELD, Ill. - As a Megabus slammed into a bridge support pillar on an interstate highway in Illinois, the impact was so powerful that it flung 16-year-old passenger Baysha Collins from the upper-level seat where she was resting to a stairway leading to the lower level.

From there, she heard moaning from her fellow passengers on the double-decker bus, the front end of which was so mangled from the collision that emergency crews had to use ladders to rescue those trapped inside. At least one passenger was killed and dozens of others were hospitalized following the Thursday crash, authorities said.

"There was a lot of screaming and crying," said Collins, of Minneapolis, who was on her way to St. Louis to visit relatives. "There was blood everywhere. I was just in shock."

Aditi R. Avhad, 25, a native of India, was killed in the crash, Illinois State Police Trooper Brad Lemarr said late Thursday. Lemarr said she was headed to Columbia, Mo., but he didn't know where she was currently living or from where she was traveling. Authorities also did not know where she was seated on the bus.

At least 38 people — nearly half of those on the bus — were taken to hospitals and at least five who were transported by helicopter, Trooper Doug Francis said.

Megabus spokeswoman Amanda Byers said the bus was at full capacity, carrying 81 passengers, when it crashed near Litchfield, about 55 miles northeast of St. Louis. It left from Chicago and was to stop in St. Louis and Columbia, Mo., before arriving in Kansas City, Mo.

Collins, who was among the three-dozen passengers taken from a crash site to a community center in Litchfield, said she first heard a "big boom," as if the wheel was skidding.

"It felt like the bus was going to tip over," she said.

Francis said it wasn't immediately clear what caused the crash and that he couldn't confirm reports there was a blown tire. A strong thunderstorm rolled through the area about four hours after the crash. Francis said the rain did not complicate the rescue and recovery effort, although it did make the crash reconstruction more difficult.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in statements that it was aware of the accident and would work with local authorities "to determine if there are safety implications that merit agency action," but that the agency was not investigating the crash.

Janis Johns, transportation director of Litchfield Community Unit School District 12, said the passengers brought to the community center were either uninjured or mildly injured and included some children.

By evening, many of the uninjured passengers already had been taken by bus from the community center to St. Louis. Others were picked up by relatives, including 27-year-old Megan Arns of St. Charles, Mo., a St. Louis suburb. Her parents made the 70-mile trip to get her.

Arns was on the top deck of the bus near the back talking to a woman next to her when "all of a sudden it felt like the bus ran over something really, really big." She said she could feel the bus lose control as it rolled into the median and toward the pillar.

"Absolute panic. People were screaming," said Arns, who got away with just a scrape on her head.

Arns and 22-year-old Enrique Villaroel of Chicago said passengers began helping each other almost immediately after the wreck.

"Panic at first, then total calm," Villaroel said. "Some people were carrying other people off the bus."

Villaroel said he also was on the upper level of the bus sleeping when he was awakened by screams. "I flew out of my seat and a little girl flew past me," he said, adding that the child appeared to be OK and he escaped with a few bruises.

A string of crashes involving low-fare buses in recent years have prompted calls for tougher regulation. Four passengers were killed in September 2010 when the driver of a double-decker Megabus smashed into a low bridge outside downtown Syracuse, N.Y. The driver was acquitted earlier this year of homicide in the deaths.

Fifteen people were killed in May 2011 when a bus swerved off Interstate 95 in New York City and was sliced in two. Two days later, another bus drove off the New Jersey Turnpike and struck a bridge support, killing the driver and passenger.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration records show that Megabus did better than the national average on inspections and in safety rankings during the 24-month period that ended Wednesday. Megabus had three other crashes in 2011 in which one person died in each wreck, according to federal records. No other details were immediately available.

Francis said 33 people were taken by ambulance to hospitals, two were flown by helicopter to St. Louis hospitals and three were flown by helicopter to a hospital in Springfield, Ill. He did not know their conditions.

Memorial Medical Center spokesman Michael Leathers said late Thursday that seven people were being treated at the hospital, but he declined to reveal their conditions.

Early Friday, some hospital officials said their staffs were still treating patients, though none were reporting any of the injuries to be life-threatening. They included Paula Endress, spokeswoman for St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, who said many of the 22 people brought there for treatment had been released, though she did not know the actual number.

In St. Louis, Barnes Jewish Hospital spokeswoman Liz Kalicak said two patients remained at the hospital early Friday, one in serious condition and another in fair condition.

Since its launch in 2006, Megabus has expanded to more than 80 cities, serving more than 19 million passengers, the company says on its website. Megabus uses curbside stops to save money instead of building its own terminals and offers free Wi-Fi on the buses.

Megabus said in a statement that it is working with the authorities to investigate the cause of Thursday's crash.

"Safety remains our number one priority," the statement said. "The thoughts and prayers of our entire staff go out to the passengers involved."
