MNigeria Mgaidi!

Mungu awabariki.

MAPINDUZI DAIMA
MAINA ANG'IELA OWINO

A TEENAGER has been knifed to death - allegedly by his best mate - after a bust-up over a message on Facebook.
Salum Kombo, 18, was stabbed repeatedly and staggered 400 yards before collapsing in a pool of blood.

He was said to have been attacked by the 15-year-old who held a grudge because he had shown "disrespect" in the posting on the social networking site.

Grieving ... weeping
girls with flowers
Friends said the pair had been "really close".

Salum - who died in a street after the attack on Sunday - was said to have been threatened after commenting on another boy's profile the day before.

The jibe is believed to have related to the alleged murderer not being invited to a party.

A girl pal said: "Salum was killed just because he posted a stupid comment on another lad's wall on Facebook.

The boy had initially written something on his wall to which Salum responded. It just escalated from there."

Salum arrived in the UK from Tanzania around seven years ago.The news was broken to his parents there yesterday.

He was living with an aunt in Bow, East London, and had been an art student at nearby Tower Hamlets College.

Another pal alleged the killer had put his arm around Salum "then just stabbed him" yards from his aunt's flat.

Salum had been singing Christmas carols with relatives shortly before he died, neighbours said.

One, who gave her name as Norma, said: "It's heartbreaking that this has happened so close to Christmas and it has affected the whole neighbourhood.

"His aunt is in a state of total shock and devastation."

Gary Byrne, 46, cradled Salum as "the life drained out of him" after he suffered a wound to the neck and chest.

He said: "We saw the kid lying on the ground with a crowd of young boys standing around him.

When I went over there was another guy trying to stem the flow of blood. The wound was either in his neck or chest.

"I was speaking to the ambulance while holding his head and trying to talk to him, trying to keep him awake. His eyes were flickering and I could see the life draining from the poor kid. There was so much blood, I have never seen anything like it in my life.

"When the ambulance pulled up he was still alive and they worked on him for about 20 minutes but he died on the pavement."

Emma Chaingwaro, 42, a nurse, said her son was a friend of the victim.

She added: "He was a nice, very respectful guy. Apparently it was all over a text message, something minor or trivial. My son is devastated."

It was the 13th teen murder in London this year.

A 15-year-old arrested over the attack is being quizzed at an East London police station.

Tiger Woods na Father Krismasi

Tiger Woods' Holiday Poem

"Twas the night of Thanksgiving and out of the house,

Came Tiger a flyin', while chased by his spouse.

She wielded a nine iron and wasn't too merry,

'Cause a bimbo’s phone number was in his Blackberry.

He’d cheated on Elin, and the story progressed.

Gal after gal stepped up and confessed.

He’d been cheatin’ with Holly, and Jaimee, and Cori,

With Joselyn, and Kalika . . . The world heard the story.

From the top of the Tour to the basement of blues,

Tiger’s sad sordid tale was all over the news.

With hostesses & waitresses, he had lots of sex,

When not in their pants, he was sendin' them texts.

Despite all his cryin’ and beggin' and pleadin',

Tiger’s wife went and bought a new home in Sweden.

And I heard her exclaim from her white Escalade,

"If you’re getting laid? Then I’m getting paid."

No, she’s not pouting, she's full of good cheer.

Her pre-nup made Christmas come early this year

*****************************************************************
At least 20 people died on the spot and more than 30 were injured, some seriously, after a bus moving from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam was involved in a collision with a minibus near Same in Kilimanjaro Region yesterday.

The vehicles involved in the smash were a Mohamed Trans bus with registration number T 810 AQM and a minibus with registration number T 845 BCB owned by Grace Maleko.

Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander Lucas Ng’hoboko confirmed the tragic incident, saying the scene was four kilometers from Same township.

“So far, it has been confirmed that 19 people have been killed and scores severely injured in the crash,” he said, adding that none of the casualties had as yet been identified.

Same District Commissioner Ibrahim Marwa said the accident occurred at around 4:30pm, adding that 16 of those killed were in the minibus and three in the bus.

“This is one of the most grisly road accidents ever to occur in our district,” he added, with other reports saying none of the passengers in the minibus survived the smash.

Reports from the scene said that the driver of the Mohamed Trans bus lost control after one of the front tyres burst and, on impact, rammed into the minibus, which was moving from the opposite direction. However, this was not immediately confirmed.

The bodies of the deceased are preserved at Same District Hospital and Mawenzi Regional Hospital in Moshi.

Some of the survivors interviewed blamed the accident on speeding by both vehicles, but RPC Ng’hoboko said a progress report would be issued today “after thorough police investigations”.

Tanzania has a high incidence of fatal road traffic accidents, with the country recently officially ranked among those with the world’s deadliest roads. This prompted UN health officials to call on the government to tighten road safety regulations.

The Global Status Report on Road Safety released last month by the World Health Organisation showed that road users in Tanzania were more likely to be killed than in many other countries.

According to the report, the number of vulnerable road users killed in the country was worryingly high, with pedestrians constituting 37 per cent of all casualties.

Deaths by road user category in the country were said to include motor vehicle passengers (33 per cent), cyclists (17 per cent), motorbike/Bajaj riders (7 per cent) and motor vehicle drivers (6 per cent).

The report revealed that 34.3 out of every 100,000 people were killed on roads in Tanzania in 2007, a dismal record going by corresponding figures for neighbouring countries like Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Uganda and Zambia.

The Truth about Santa's Reindeer

REMEMBER THIS AT CHRISTMAS TIME

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December.

Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl. We should've known…...
ONLY women would be able to drag a fat-ass man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.

A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mzungu amtemea mate trafiki Dar
Na Moshi Lusonzo
10th December 2009

Movie producer Tyler Perry says his mother, Willie Maxine Perry, has died at age 64.

Tyler posted a brief notice on his official website, thanking fans for their prayers. He did not mention a cause of death or any other details.

Perry, 40, has said his mother was the basis for his most popular character, Madea. Click here for a great scene from the stage version of "Madea Goes to Jail" to get the idea.

The producer recently commented on plans to "get away from Hollywood for a sec" to clear his head, with a touring production of "Madea's Big Fat Happy Family" that premieres in Denver in January. He's also been very moved by the movie "Precious," he said, on which he is an executive producer.

"If you've never seen a Madea play, then you haven't seen Madea at all," he posted on his site. Click here for a great scene from the stage version of "Madea Goes to Jail."
Maxine was a preschool teacher at the New Orleans Jewish Community Center for most of her life, the Atlanta paper reported.

Perry's publicist did not immediately respond to a phone call from the Associated Press.

Kutoka CNN.com

(CNN) -- As a gay man in Uganda, Frank Mugisha is used to the taunts, the slurs and the daily harassment of neighbors and friends.

But if a new bill proposed in the east African country becomes law, Mugisha could be put away for life, or worse, put to death for having sex with another man.

"Right now, you can't go to places that are crowded, because the mob can attack us or even burn us. We can't walk alone. We are ostracized by relatives. But if this bill passes, it will become impossible for me to live here at all. And that part hurts the most," Mugisha said.

The Anti-Homosexuality Bill features several provisions that human rights groups say would spur a witch hunt of homosexuals in the country:

• Gays and lesbians convicted of having gay sex would be sentenced, at minimum, to life in prison

• People who test positive for HIV may be executed

• Homosexuals who have sex with a minor, or engage in homosexual sex more than once, may also receive the death penalty

• The bill forbids the "promotion of homosexuality," which in effect bans organizations working in HIV and AIDS prevention

• Anyone who knows of homosexual activity taking place but does not report it would risk up to three years in prison.

"Who will go to HIV testing if he knows that he will suffer the death sentence?" Elizabeth Mataka, the U.N. Special Envoy on AIDS in Africa, told reporters last week. "The law will drive them away from seeking counseling and testing services."

Homosexuality is already illegal in Uganda under colonial-era laws. But the bill, introduced in October, is intended to put more teeth into prosecuting violators.

It applies even to Ugandans participating in same-sex acts in countries where such behavior is legal.
"They are supposed to be brought back to Uganda and convicted here. The government is putting homosexuality on the level of treason," Mugisha said.

Lawmakers have indicated that they will pass the bill before year's end.
It has the blessing of many religious leaders -- Muslim and Christian -- in a country where a July poll found 95 percent opposed to legalizing homosexuality.

The Rev. Esau Omara, a senior church leader, said over the weekend that any lawmaker opposing the bill will pay for it during the next election, according to local newspaper reports.
And a leading Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ramathan Shaban Mubajje, has called for gays to be rounded up and banished to an island until they die.

Several media outlets also have inflamed sentiments in recent months by publicly pointing out gays and lesbians.
Who will go to HIV testing if he knows that he will suffer the death sentence?--Elizabeth Mataka
In April, the Observer newspaper published tips to help readers spot homosexuals. And over the summer, the Red Pepper tabloid outed 45 gays and lesbians.

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has not publicly stated his position on the bill, but last month blamed foreign influence in promoting and funding homosexuality.

"It is true that, if the president has said that, he must have information that European nations are promoting (homosexuality) and recruiting homosexuals," government spokesman Fred Opolot said. "You must note that the president or the legislators are responding to the concern of the citizenry of the country."

At the Commonwealth summit in Trinidad and Tobago late last month, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said he pulled aside Museveni to deplore the bill.

"We find them inconsistent with, frankly, I think any reasonable understanding of human rights, and I was very clear on that with the president of Uganda," Harper told reporters.
In the United States, a coalition of Christian leaders released a statement Monday denouncing the bill.

"Regardless of the diverse theological views of our religious traditions regarding the morality of homosexuality, in our churches, communities and families, we seek to embrace our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters as God's children, worthy of respect and love," the statement read.
Human rights groups have called on Western nations to withhold aid from Uganda if the measure passes. About 40 percent of the country's budget comes from international aid.

"This draft bill is clearly an attempt to divide and weaken civil society by striking at one of its most marginalized groups," said Scott Long, director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights Program at the New York-based Human Rights Watch. "The government may be starting here, but who will be next?"

Opolot, the government spokesman, said consideration of the bill in parliament is merely "democracy at work."

"We as a country are engaging and debating a pertinent issue," he said. "So if a foreign country chooses to cut aid simply because Uganda is debating its destiny, then it is quite outrageous and quite wrong."

Mugisha, who now heads the group Sexual Minority of Uganda, said he is working with lawyers and other activists to change minds and defeat the measure.

"I have put a lot of effort in this struggle. I just want to live freely every day," he said. "I want to be happy knowing that if I'm going to meet someone, I'm not going to be taken to jail forever."

Guinea's wounded president flown to Morocco

CONAKRY, Guinea (AP) - The wounded president of Guinea was airlifted to a hospital in Morocco on Friday, opening a dangerous power vacuum in this mineral-rich country one year after he took over in a military coup.

The shooting of Capt. Moussa "Dadis" Camara, reportedly by his second-in-command, has laid bare deep divisions within the junta. The assassination attempt followed an argument between Camara and Abubakar "Toumba" Diakite, head of the presidential guard, over who would take the fall for a massacre of unarmed protesters in September, two government officials and a retired diplomat said.

The government officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak and the retired diplomat feared reprisal.

U.N. officials were in Guinea this week investigating the massacre.
Camara was flown to the Mohammad V Military Hospital in Rabat, where a medical official described his condition as not serious, noting he appeared only slightly wounded. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he did not have permission.

The information supports statements by presidential spokesman Idrissa Cherif, who told The Associated Press that the Guinean leader was walking and talking. "He is doing well," he said.
Blaise Compaore, the president of neighboring Burkina Faso who sent his private plane to transport Camara to Morocco, said on state radio that his condition "is difficult but not desperate," citing a doctor.

The trip marked the first time the 45-year-old has left Guinea since seizing control last December. He has canceled multiple other trips abroad, often at the last minute, because of fears of countercoups.

As night fell on Friday, Toumba and about a dozen of his men remained at large. Cherif said a nationwide manhunt was under way. The owner of a building overlooking Camp Koundara, the base of the presidential guard, said one of his tenants saw a speed boat loaded with gun-toting soldiers speed off over the Atlantic Ocean.

The capital's main port was thick with soldiers carrying submachine guns. Cherif said the military junta, which calls itself the National Council for Democracy and Development, or CNDD, is in control of the country. He declined to say who in the CNDD was heading the government.
Guinea, whose soil is rich in gold, diamonds and half the world's reserves of the raw material used to make aluminum, has been under military rule for the past 25 years.

Initially the coup leaders promised elections within 60 days, but Camara later said the 32-member junta would hold power for about two years.
The bold, daylight shooting Thursday underscores how fractious the army has become since little-known Camara took charge following the death of longtime dictator Lansana Conte. Analysts said the army has split between several top commanders - including Toumba - all of whom control battalions.

Toumba had been at Camara's side almost constantly since the coup last year. In recent months, as far more senior officers were frozen out, he was routinely seen going in and out of Camara's private office without even knocking.

But government officials and the retired diplomat said the relationship began to sour three months ago after the presidential guard opened fire on unarmed civilians who had gathered in the national soccer stadium to demand that the military step down. At least 157 people were killed and dozens of women were gang raped by soldiers on the stadium grass, according to human rights groups.

The massacre led the European Union and the African Union to impose sanctions on Guinea, including a travel ban on top members of the junta.
The tension between the two men escalated this week as a U.N. commission began interviewing witnesses in an effort to assign culpability for the Sept. 28 killings, the officials say.

"The relationship between them became venomous after Dadis asked Toumba to go before the commission," said Information Minister Cheick Fantamady Conde, whose office overlooks the camp where the presidential guard is garrisoned. "But it's not yesterday that the seeds for this incident were sown. ... Everyone saw Toumba at the stadium."

It's unclear what prompted Camara to leave his office in the main military barracks in Conakry and drive downtown to confront Toumba. But soon after Camara and his bodyguards arrived, an altercation ensued, said Conde, who heard the volley of gunfire from his office. A retired diplomat who is close to the junta said that officers present during the confrontation heard Toumba shout out: "I won't take the fall for you."

Opposition leaders who suffered injuries in the stadium at the hand of Toumba's men say the power vacuum is dangerous, but also offers Guinea a sliver of hope.

"It could be the beginning of a solution," said Oury Bah, the second-ranking leader of the Union for the Democratic Forces of Guinea, a leading opposition party. "If the army doesn't split apart and begin fighting amongst itself, this could be a chance for Guinea to negotiate a return to civilian rule."

TRL strike now countrywide
By Guardian team
3rd December 2009

The central line cargo and passenger transportation system was paralyzed yesterday after workers of the Tanzania Railways Limited (TRL) downed tools over delay of last month’s salaries.

Due to the boycott, hundreds of passengers have been stranded at the Dar es Salaam central and other stations, with reports saying that a passenger train en-route got stuck at stations near Manyoni.

Tanzania Railway Workers Union (Trawu) secretary-general Sylvester Rwegasira confirmed reports of the strike, saying it was aimed at putting pressure on the defiant TRL management to pay their salaries for November.

In a move which deepens the management crisis, enraged workers of the cash-troubled TRL yesterday morning stormed the company’s headquarters along Sokoine Drive in the city in attempts to force the foreign and other senior management staff out of their offices.

However a police squad, led by the Railway Police Commander, Ruth Makeremo, who led armed police deployment at the offices, saved the day for the management by stopping the workers who had already arrived at the offices.

The workers had gathered at the central station in Dar es Salaam at around 11 in the morning for a briefing on the payment of their salaries. When they were told that there was no money, a large group of them decided to storm the offices to force the management out.

According to Rwegasira, the message about the defiant position of the management was shared among all workers across the country and the strike became effective immediately.

Shortly after the briefing, a group of workers, who carried placards castigating their management, moved to the TRL headquarters where the MD and his team were forced to pack and leave immediately. But police arrived to stop the workers.

The Railway Police chief Makeremo said there was no assurance of security for the management to leave in peace, that is why the exercise was suspended. Additionally, she said she had not been informed by respective government authorities about the move.

On Tuesday, the workers stormed offices of their management and deflated tyres of vehicles of the company’s senior staff over the same claims. Due to the chaos, hundreds of passengers who were destined for upcountry regions from Dar es Salaam were stranded after workers on duty to take the train to Mwanza and Kigoma via Morogoro, Dodoma and Tabora refused to work.

Cars whose tyres were deflated included that of the TRL managing director Hundi-Lal Chaudhary, a Prado bearing registration number T405 AVL. Other cars were T760 AWG, T898 AZX, T523 AVA, T814 AUV and T925 AWG.

Reacting to the workers claims, the TRL managing director Hundi-Lal Chaudhary maintained that his management can’t raise 1.6bn/- needed to settle November salaries for the workers.

Infrastructure Development ministry permanent secretary Omar Chambo had said earlier this week that the government had already disbursed 522m/- as part of the November salaries for the workers, which is part of its contribution to help the TRL end the problem.

In mid October this year, the TRL workers staged an eight-hour stand-off to end an administration and Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority (Sumatra) planned test of locomotives and coaches. The workers claimed that carriages were defective and unworthy to carry passengers.

The workers were pressing for two basic demands; refusal to have 25 passenger coaches and 23 diesel power engines tested all the way to Dodoma, citing safety reasons and the immediate payment of their arrears.

TRL has been experiencing incidents of chaos and strikes by workers since the new management under the Indian firm, RITES, took over operations of the central railway line some three years ago.

Bajaj drivers at high risk of contracting HIV

By Gerald Kitabu

The Bajaj is a new form of transport in Dar es Salaam which many people, especially those who can not afford hiring a taxi prefer.

As much as it is helping low-income earners to enjoy a comfortable, quick and cheaper ride and at the same time providing employment to people who would otherwise be on the streets, the Bajaj is posing a danger whose effects will be felt in a few years to come.

The Bajaj might turn out to be the worst form of employment some young people have chosen. The business is putting Bajaj drivers at high risk of contracting HIV.

At present, the Bajaj drivers, most who do not undergo formal training and most who have little knowledge of HIV/Aids, are former taxi drivers, who switched to Bajaj business which offers more income. Some are former houseboys and gardeners and are in the high-risk group of the population that is the youths.

In search for quick money, most Bajaj drivers ferry low-income people including drunkards, pickpockets, and commercial sex workers. During the night however, they change positions and routes, with most of them shifting from their official parking places to bars and pubs to hunt for passengers who include commercial sex workers and their customers.

A survey in different suburbs of Dar es Salaam shows that from 9.00 pm until dawn, the Bajaj drivers usually queue around bars and pubs in search for customers who prefer cheaper transport which is always negotiable with the Bajaj drivers. And in so doing, some of these drivers fall prey to the unsuspecting prostitutes who lure them into sex in exchange for a free ride.

Said Mohamed (21) is a Bajaj driver at Kijitonyama near Science area in Kijitonyama and he says some of their passengers are commercial sex workers and prostitutes. He says ferrying them does not matter, but what maters is the way they behave when negotiating the price.

According to him, these are very good customers although very tricky and seductive.

For example he says, a commercial sex worker may hire a Bajaj to take her from Kijitonyama to Sinza or Mwenge but before you drop her, she may refuse to pay you claiming to have lost her purse. She may then offer you sex instead.

Some times commercial sex workers who usually carry hand bags with them may stop a Bajaj driver and while the Bajaj is in motion, they would undress pretending to change into transparent mini-skirts and tops to attract men. But their aim normally is to attract the Bajaj drivers who end up having short-time unprotected sex with them in dark corners. After the service, the women leave without paying fare.

“You know we want money and so we can’t refuse to offer a customer transport simply because she is a prostitute. But I must confess that some commercial sex workers may undress while the Bajaj is in motion. The moment you ask her why she is doing that, she says it is none of your business. I think that is one way of seducing the young drivers to,” says Pius Anthony, another Bajaj driver.

Steven John (19) says some Bajaji drivers ferry half naked prostitutes from bars and pubs to guest houses, but when the prostitutes don’t find their men, they sleep with them.

“In Kijitonyama near the science and technology building, there is a special house rented by commercial sex workers. That place has always been a destination for Bajaj drivers who sneak in and sleep with them,” he says.

Shafiru Salum (20), who lives near the house alleged to be harbouring commercial sex workers, concedes saying that it is true that there are such women in that house, selling their bodies and that he has seen several Bajaj drivers, famous football players and businessmen among others entering the house.

“There are several beautiful ladies in there and they keep on changing men every day. They have rented part of the house with a corridor used as the reception for guests who come to buy sex. Sometimes, you will see them seated on the veranda during evening time,” he says.

Salum says he is not sure if the Bajaj drivers afford them because they are very expensive. One has to part with at least 50,000/- for a quickie and that sometimes they travel to China and come back with different goods and products which they sell.

New HIV infections in the rapidly expanding city of Dar es Salaam take different forms depending on the environment and socio-economic changes. For example, Philomena Michael (20), who works with one of the mushrooming men’s salons along Shekilango road, in Sinza has a different story to tell with regard to new HIV infections. She says, unlike men workers in the men’s salons who cut customers hair, most of the girls who work in these salons are used to entertain customers.

Nowadays there are many modern salons that offer decent and modern services and their prices are a higher compared to old fashioned-salons with only male workers.

These salons offer, among other services, massages, facial treatment, scrubbing and the list is long. The young ladies most of them beautiful, and sometimes without gloves, massage your face and neck in a ticklish manner that only the bold ones can withstand. They expertly place their soft fingers in and around the customer’s ears, neck and face in a provocative manner so as to ‘appease’ them, so they say. And the men are said to enjoy this, that’s why they keep going to salons with female attendants. They say men’s hands are hard and irritating.

“In these salons, beautiful ladies are used to attract men. Men say they like being attended by girls because they are the opposite sex and that they have soft hands. When men come for the service, they direct us which parts of their body to clean, touch and place fingers in, if you do that, they offer you extra money and if you refuse, they threaten to report you to the owner of the salon who may fire you,” says Philomena.

She says worse still, the policy in many salons is for ladies not to refuse being touched in any parts of their body by the customers because doing that may discourage customers. if it happens that a lady refuses, and the reports reach her boss, she is likely to receive summary dismissal. So, in order to protect their employment, poverty forces them to agree although against their will.

Dr. Yemela Ndibalema of the Ocean Road Cancer Institute says HIV/Aids will only be defeated if each one of us play their part.

“It is the responsibility of every individual to protect other people. The moment we shall be able to value other people’s life the same way we value ours, that will help very much to scale down the infections,” he says.

Duh!

Police in Florida hope to talk to golfing great Tiger Woods today about the circumstances surrounding his SUV accident early Friday.

The 33-year-old was treated and released from a hospital after his vehicle struck a fire hydrant at his estate near Orlando and then and hit a tree on a neighbor's property in the early morning hours.

Police say they attempted to talk to Woods yesterday, but his wife said he was sleeping. One key question is where he was headed at that hour.

The accident came two days after the National Enquirer published a story alleging that Woods had been seeing a New York night club hostess, and that they recently were together in Melbourne, where Woods competed in the Australian Masters.

The Grizzlies worked with the NBA's Basketball without Borders program to facilitate the shipment of jersey's that will be distributed to those in need in Thabeet's native African country. Approximately 3,000 jerseys will be distributed to impoverished children in Tanzania.

Ndege ya Zimbabwe Imeanguka China

11/28/09 By EUGENE HOSHIKO
Associated Press Writer

SHANGHAI (AP) - A cargo plane crashed as it took off from Shanghai's main airport Saturday, killing three American crew members and injuring four other employees after it veered off the runway and burst into flames.

Three Americans on the seven-member crew died and a fourth American was injured, U.S. Embassy spokesman Richard Buangan told The Associated Press. He did not know the injured person's condition.

Shanghai television showed what it called a 61-year-old American co-pilot in a hospital bed, conscious and saying "Thank you" to staff and officials.

The TV report said the other crew were from Indonesia, Belgium and Zimbabwe.
The aircraft's tail struck the ground on takeoff, China Central Television reported. Footage showed black smoke billowing from the wreckage.

The crash at Shanghai Pudong International Airport occurred just after 8 a.m. (0000 GMT), the official Xinhua News Agency said. The plane was headed to Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan.
Xinhua said the three people died at the People's Hospital of Pudong New Area. A propaganda official there had no comment Saturday night.

The aircraft was operated by Zimbabwe-based Avient Aviation. An Avient Harare official said the flight was operated out the United Kingdom and could not say what cargo was on board. The official was not authorized to speak to the media and spoke on condition of anonymity.

State media said the plane was an MD-11. In March, another MD-11 cargo plane crashed and exploded while landing at Japan's largest international airport, killing its two American pilots. Xinhua said another MD-11 with Korean Air crashed shortly after takeoff 10 years ago at Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport.
More than 30 international flights from the Shanghai airport were delayed Saturday morning, leaving about 4,000 travelers stranded on planes or in airport lounges, Xinhua said. CCTV said two runways at the airport were shut down.

Shanghai is China's largest city and its economic capital. The Pudong airport is located on the eastern edge of the city, by the East China Sea.

Recent crashes in China include two Chinese air force jets colliding in June 2008 in Inner Mongolia, with both pilots parachuting to safety. In June 2006, a Chinese military plane crashed in eastern Anhui province, killing all 40 people aboard.
