Ubaguzi Dar es Salaam - Mhindi Atukana Weusi - Eti Manyani (Monkeys)
Kutoka FACEBOOK:
Today, I received extremely disturbing screen shots of posts by an Indian lady who is calling Tanzanians of African origin "monkeys". She had the audacity to attack people that stood up to her indicating that what she did was wrong but she stuck to her guns and continued to call them monkeys and other Non Tanzanians with different ethnic background "monkey lovers". This has extremely upset me to no end. How can this be happening in our country and it is done by a person who is well known in Dar with various businesses which some of us frequent often? I am hoping that someone has hacked her account and can therefore excuse the contents of the said posts. However, if the account is not hacked then we need to share these posts as the original posts have since been deleted in Crime Alert Tanzania FB Page to ensure that the appropriate authorities take this matter seriously and do something against such inappropriate racist language. Please note that I do not welcome any comments slandering Indians as majority of my friends are of Indian origin both in and outside of Tanzania and they are great people with deep respect for other human beings regardless of their ethnic background.

Jamani hata haya hawana!
To Adidas:
I am horrified at the design of this shoes. As an African American this is an insult to us. Why? Our ancestors were not considered human, they were chained and shackled, beaten. Today, the legacy continues as blacks disproportionately make up a large number of the prison population. ORANGE is a prison color! They wear chains and shackles in there. So this must be some kind on subtle conditioning technique! Shame on Adidas! I will never buy anything labelled Adidas ever again.

Mimi sitaki kupoteza biashara yangu!"

While protests in the early 1950s had achieved legal segregation of most public modations in Washington D.C., “informal segregation remained a serious problem.” African diplomats that moved their families to the nation’s capital often faced discrimination in housing, restaurants, businesses as well as hostile harassment. The “mistreatment” of these African diplomats “not only damaged relations with the host nation but might also affect the power balance in the United Nations; Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev was quietly trying to line up African nations behind a proposal to have the United Nations moved out of the United States because of persistent racial discrimination.”
One particular account involving William Fitzjohn of Sierra Leone served as a mechanism for the desegregation of the route African dignitaries used to travel from New York to Washington. Fitzjohn was denied service at a Howard Johnson’s restaurant in Hagerstown, Maryland in March of 1961. President Kennedy, moved by the notion that the African press might view this episode as a “catalyst for antiAmerican feelings,” met personally with the diplomat to apologize for the incident.
Subsequent incidents involving dozens of African diplomats, including the new ambassador from Chad, Adam Malik Sow, forced Kennedy to reconsider the “Washington first” strategy (i.e. promoting civil rights gains made by the federal government abroad, while downplaying civil rights struggles and abuses at home).
While Kennedy’s first suggestion to these diplomats was to fly from New York to Washington instead of driving, he would eventually use the State Department’s Office of Protocol to pressure the Maryland legislature to pass a law outlawing segregated public facilities along Route 40. “Thus began a campaign led by officials of the federal government to undermine segregation in Maryland.” Following a period of sitins and threats of freedom rides by the Congress of Racial Equality, as well as a two year campaign from the Office of Protocol, the Maryland General Assembly finally passed a law that banned racial discrimination in restaurants and hotels in the areas surrounding Route 40 during a March session in 1963.

Impending GOP Losses Lead to Rage and Hate
by Paul Hogarth‚ Oct. 20‚ 2008
Liberals have worried about Barack Obama’s safety ever since he entered the race—but only in the past week have I started to get nervous. We’ve all heard about the hostile rhetoric coming from crowds at Sarah Palin rallies. Now John McCain’s impending loss has made Republicans increasingly vicious—leading to rage, hate and occasional acts of violence. ACORN organizers report getting death threats and their offices being vandalized, while an Obama canvasser was physically assaulted this weekend by a deranged Republican. But the McCain campaign refuses to tone down its rhetoric. Palin told a crowd she was glad to be in a “pro-American” part of the country, while a McCain spokesperson called liberal Northern Virginia “not real Virginia” because it is less “southern.” By making the race about who is a “real” American, Republicans only fuel the fire of dangerous people who intend to cause harm—like the man in Ohio who hung an Obama effigy by a noose in his yard. As the McCain campaign sinks to its inevitable conclusion, will Republicans keep fanning the flames of hate—or will they go out on a high note?
We all know that George Bush and Dick Cheney could bring out the worst in their supporters, but I can’t remember it getting this nasty four years ago during the final two weeks. But in 2004, Republicans had a good shot at winning the presidency (the race was a dead heat all the way up to Election Day)—so you never had this palpable aura of desperation we now see among McCain supporters. Obama is going to win this race, and they know it. The party’s right-wing base is mortified at the prospect of a black President—and hateful rhetoric by their leaders could incite them to action.
McCain supporters have shouted “terrorist” or “kill him!” at Sarah Palin rallies when Obama’s name gets mentioned, but John McCain still won’t recognize it. By far the worst moment in last week’s final Presidential Debate was how McCain chose to respond to the issue. A clearly agitated McCain interrupted Obama to say how proud he was of “all the dedicated and patriotic men and women” who attend these rallies. Oblivious to the well-documented hate speech, McCain defended the old WWII veterans at the rallies—as if Obama had impugned all of his rally attendees.
Already, the climate of hate we have seen at Sarah Palin rallies has produced violent consequences. An Obama canvasser in Wisconsin was physically assaulted this weekend by an angry voter—who accused her of being part of ACORN. A member of ACORN in Ohio who appeared on TV received an e-mail that said she was “going to have her life ended,” and the group has had their Boston and Seattle offices vandalized.
ACORN is one of the most effective grass-roots political organizations in the country, and the McCain campaign has accused them of perpetrating voter fraud on behalf of Obama in minority communities. ACORN has defended their efforts to register low-income voters, but the subtext behind turning ACORN into a bogeyman for the Right is the kind of people they have worked to enfranchise: African-Americans and Latinos. And for the right-wing base, the prospect of more black and brown voters electing the nation’s first black President is what scares them the most.
Sarah Palin said at a rally in North Carolina last week how happy she was to be in a “pro-American” part of the country—and later explained that she meant small towns. McCain spokeswoman Nancy Pfotenhauer later told MSNBC that while Obama was doing well in northern Virginia (the D.C. suburbs), her candidate would do better in “real Virginia.” When asked to clarify exactly what she meant, Pfotenhauer explained that the “real” Virginia is “more southern in nature.”
So according to Republicans, “real” Americans are just southerners who live in small towns. While not as explicit as the racially coded language George Wallace used in the 1960’s and 70’s, it’s the kind of rhetoric that spawns a confused racist into action.
Take Mike Lunsford of Ohio. Despite concerns from his (white) neighbors who feel uncomfortable about it, he put an effigy of Obama in his front lawn—and tied it to a noose. He unapologetically admits to being a racist, admits that his effigy is racist, says that America is a “white, Christian nation” and fears having a black man elected President.
Normally, Lunsford would just be a crank with racist views who would not be taken seriously. He might even keep his prejudices private at the ballot box. But with the Republican base freaking out about losing this election—and rhetoric from their leaders about who is “American”—now he has validation. And hanging an effigy in his lawn is the line that he crossed from latent racist views to overt racist action.

PRESS RELEASE:
WHITE WORKER’S RACIST CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR’S WISH GRANTED BY NATIONAL ART SUPPLY CHAIN
by Rayford Bullock, Universal Life Press
Wednesday Dec 26th, 2007 9:54 PM
WHITE WORKER’S CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR’S WISH GRANTED BY NATIONAL ART SUPPLY CHAIN: AFRICAN AMERCIAN FATHER RELEASED BECAUSE THE WHITE WORKER FELT UNCOMFORTABLE AROUND AFRICAN AMERICANS!
Berkeley, CA, December 26, 2007 In the liberal multi-cultural City of Berkeley, California and home of the internationally renowned and respected University of California where diversity is as common as apple pie. On the eve of the New Year, the sole African American employee at Utrecht Art Supply in Berkeley at the foot of U.C. Berkeley on University Avenue didn’t get an annual Christmas or New Year’s bonus, gift, party or a Merry Christmas or Happy New Year from his employer. But, the company granted his white co-worker’s New Year’s racist wish.
On December 18, 2007, the store’s only African-American employee received a formal Separation and Release Agreement from his employer, because his white co-worker, John Paulson, the store manager didn’t feel “comfortable” working around African Americans.
It certainty comes at an uncomfortable time for the young African American worker. It happened just before Christmas, and he is a dedicated hard working single parent raising two minor children. Jeff Olson, Utrecht Art Supply District Regional Manager flew in from Chicago and delivered Paulson’s wish that Jeff said had been gift wrapped and endorsed by Utrecht’s CEO, George Meunch, in Cranbury, New Jersey.
Utrecht is a national chain of art supply stores founded in 1946 in New York by artist Norman Gulamerian and his brother Harold. The company is named after the street New Utrecht Avenue in Brooklyn, NY. Certainty, this is a new low in racial tolerance and relations in this country. Racial uncomfortability instead of business necessity, ability, job performance, personal conduct, character and criminal convictions, as a justified ground to release employees from their jobs will certainty negatively impact the country’s economy and set race relations back to the stone age.
I wish this wasn’t true especially for his young father, his two young children, for the moral character of this nation, and coming at Christmas and a New Year when our spirits are so low due to the wars, housing market crisis, high gas prices, and the economy.
Reached for comment about the story at the Berkeley store, Paulson declined to comment, and referred the matter for comment to the company CEO, George Meunch. Mr. Meunch did not respond to repeated calls to his office, or a requested written e-mail comment to the story. More bad season cheer for the New Year, Utrecht is planning to expand and open up about twenty new art supply stores in cities with substantial populations of communities of color.
An anonymous observer commented, “If they (Utrecht) don’t want people of color working in their stores, how do they reasonably expect people of color and people of conscious to continue to shop at their stores, or better yet open their arms to welcome this type of company with such senseless management styles of racial intolerance and insensitivity into their cities?” Will anyone at Utrecht that question? _____________________________________________________________________ If you’d like more information about this topic, or to schedule an interview with the young African-American father, please call Rayford Bullock, Universal Life Press, at 510.220-0711 or e-mail at rayfordbullock [at] yahoo.com
