Ombaomba Afanya Fujo Back Bay Boston

Wadau, kwenye saa nane na nusu mchana leo nilienda kwenye lunch break Copley Square hapa Boston. Kufika Back Bay Dartmouth St nje ya kituo cha treni na basi, nilishangaa kuona huyo ombaomba anayetumia wheelchair kazuia basi la abiria na hiyo kiti chake. Wakina mama weusi walimzunguka na kumsihi aache kufanya fujo barabarani maana ataenda jela. Mwingine alimwambia kuwa anafanya maksudi kusudi apelekwe hospitali ili apate chakula na sehemu ya kulala. Jamaa alisema kuwa dereva wa basi alimzuia kupanda hiyo basi kwa vile kiti chake kilikuwa na huo mti wa kutundika dawa. Alisema kuwa naye aliamua kuzuia basi isiene popote mpaka aruhusiwe kupanda. Baada ya dakika tano hivi, jamaa aliondoa kiti chake na basi iliendelea na safari. Bahati yake polisi hawakuwa karibu.

Kitu kingine, kumbe huyo jamaa mzima anaweza kutembea! Siku zote nilidhani hawezi kutembea.

Mara nyingi sisi wapishi tulikuwa tunambulia kikombe kimoja tu!!! Maafande waklivyokuwa na uchu wa hiyo pombe! Tena tulikuwa tunatengeneza kwa ruksa ya CO!

Pombe za kienyeji kwa kawaida hazina sumu, ila watu wakianza kuongeza makemikali eti kusudi iwe kali zaidi ndo inagueka sumu. Mabibi na mababu zetu walikuwa wanaitengeneza tangu hapo zamani za kale! Ni sanaa. Lakini uchu wa kupata pesa haraka inaua!

Illegal local brew kills 14 in Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya (CNN) -- At least 14 people died in a Nairobi slum after drinking illegal local brew, which may have been laced with chemicals to make it more potent, a government official said.

Another 11 people from the Kibera area are hospitalized, complaining of stomach pains after drinking the brew popularly known as changa'a, said local official Richard Juma. Fifty-one people were arrested in a police raid for allegedly possessing changa'a, and were being held at a local police station, he said.

"As a government we are not happy about this incident," Juma said. "We will continue to raid where we think the brew dens are located until this menance is completely done away with."

While Juma said 14 people had died, police spokesman Eric Kiraithe put the number of deaths at six, saying police are investigating to determine the actual number of deaths and the number of those hospitalized.

A sample of the changa'a has been taken to a government chemist for testing.

Changa'a is sold cheaply in Nairobi slums. While it can take a long time to prepare, greedy brewers lace it with chemicals to hasten the process and to make it more potent. There have been a number of deaths from drinking changa'a in recent years, and other people been blinded.

"The reason these people continue to drink this harmful alcohol even with awareness of its deadly ramifications is because some of the residents here don't care about their lives, they'd rather drink all day," Juma said.

Samuel Chege was treated and released Monday at the Nairobi national hospital after consuming changa'a during a weekend drinking spree and experiencing stomach pains.

"I urge other people not to drink changa'a because you don't know how it has been prepared," he said.

Members of Parliament have passed a bill to legalize changa'a and other drinks, but the president has not yet signed it.

"In my opinion, it should not be legalized because the number of proprietors will increase and so will the number of drunks," Juma said.

Mary Nduku said her cousin died after drinking the deadly beverage. She said she was called home from work to find him lying on the floor of their house. He and a neighbor, who was also unconscious, were rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

"The government should work hard in stopping this problem," Nduku said. "We are losing too many people. Our people are dying and some are becoming blind. The government should not legalize this homemade local brew as there are people who will take advantage and make all sorts of alcohol."

Nanny, 30, died from sexual arousal while watching pornography

A 30-year-old woman's death as she used a sex toy while watching pornography was probably due to her state of sexual excitement, an inquest heard today.
Children's nanny Nichola Paginton was found dead in bed naked from the waist down last October with pornographic material running on her laptop. A sex toy was discovered next to her.

A Home Office pathologist told the inquest in Gloucester that Miss Paginton died from a sudden heart arrhythmia, probably brought on by her state of arousal.
Gloucestershire coroner Alan Crickmore agreed it was likely that 'her activity before death' contributed to the fatal arrhythmia.

The inquest heard that Miss Paginton, of Cirencester, was found dead in October last year.

Detective Sergeant Gavin Webb said police had been called by her employer Sarah Griffiths who had visited Miss Paginton's home when she failed to turn up for work.
When there was no reply at the door she enlisted the help of neighbour Michelle Grant and they saw Miss Paginton through the curtains, lying on her bed with her cat lying on her chest.
'After they broke in they realised Miss Paginton was dead,' said Sgt Webb. 'She had a computer on her lap and when they moved it and lifted the duvet, they found she was naked from the waist down and there was a vibrator in the bed.

'The laptop was still displaying pornographic material.'
Home office pathologist Dr Richard Jones from the University of Cardiff said: 'There is nothing to explain why she died in this way but I suspect sudden cardiac death.'
Returning a verdict of death from natural causes, Mr Crickmore said: 'I am satisfied Nichola Paginton died of a natural disease process - sudden cardiac arryhthmia.
'It is not always possible to determine an exact cause of death but it is likely that her activity before death contributed towards it.'

Vonetta McGee dies at 65; Film Actress during 1970s Blaxploitation Era

Vonetta McGee, an actress whose big-screen heyday during the blaxploitation era of the 1970s included leading roles in "Blacula" and "Shaft in Africa," has died. She was 65.

McGee died Friday at a hospital in Berkeley after experiencing cardiac arrest and being on life support for two days, said family spokeswoman Kelley Nayo. Although McGee had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma at age 17, Nayo said, her death was not related to the disease.

McGee was described as "one of the busiest and most beautiful black actresses" by Times movie reviewer Kevin Thomas in 1972, the year she appeared opposite Fred Williamson in the black action movie "Hammer," and had starring roles in the crime-drama "Melinda" and the horror film "Blacula."

She went on to appear with Richard Roundtree in "Shaft in Africa" (1973), and co-starred with Max Julien in "Thomasine & Bushrod" (1974).

McGee also appeared with Clint Eastwood in the 1975 action-thriller "The Eiger Sanction," prompting The Times' Thomas to write in his review: "Her parrying with Eastwood, verbally and otherwise, is enough to scorch the screen."

"I was pleased to see her get a role with Clint Eastwood," said Williamson, who knew McGee before they made "Hammer." "Not many black actors had that opportunity to be in a movie where color doesn't matter.

"Vonetta McGee was like a lot of actors and actresses at that time, like myself, Jim Brown, Richard Roundtree, Billy Dee Williams and Pam Grier, in that we had more talent than we were allowed to show because everything was perceived as a black project. Once they categorize you, your marketability becomes limited."

McGee was no fan of the "blaxploitation" label that was attached to many of the films featuring black casts in the '70s.

That label, she told The Times in 1979, was used "like racism, so you don't have to think of the individual elements, just the whole. If you study propaganda, you understand how this works."
Although The Times reported that McGee "calls herself one of the lucky graduates of the black-film genre," she pointed out that there was a difference between someone like Diana Ross and other potentially marketable black actresses.

"She has had the luxury of a studio behind her," McGee said. "This is where a lot of us fell short. We all needed a certain amount of protection. But we were on our own."

Among McGee's other film credits are "The Lost Man," "Detroit 9000," "Brothers" (in which she played an activist based on Angela Davis), "Repo Man" and "To Sleep with Anger."
In the '80s, her career turned primarily to television.

That included playing Sister Indigo on Robert Blake's short-lived 1985 dramatic series "Hell Town" and playing a social worker who takes a con man played by Jimmie Walker into her home in the syndicated 1987-88 sitcom "Bustin' Loose."

She also played a recurring role on "L.A. Law" and appeared in several episodes of "Cagney & Lacey" as the wife of detective Mark Petrie (played by Carl Lumbly).

McGee and Lumbly were married in 1986 and had a son, Brandon, in 1988.
Born Lawrence Vonetta McGee in San Francisco on Jan. 14, 1945, she was attending what is now San Francisco State when she got involved with a local acting group.

She launched her film career in 1968 in Italy, where she appeared in the spaghetti western "The Great Silence" and played the title role in the comedy "Faustina."

In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by her mother, Alma McGee; three brothers, Donald, Richard and Ronald McGee; and a sister, Alma McGee.

Moko alikutwa amekufa kwenye kisiwa cha Matakana huko Tauranga, New Zealand. Wataalam wa bahari wanafanya uchunguzi kugundua nini kilimwua.

Moko alikuwa kipenzi cha wenyeji na watalii. Alikuwa na mchezo wa kupindua maboti aina ya kayak. Alikuwa anapenda sana kuchokoza watu kewenye surf boards. Aliwahi kumpeleka mama moja aliyekuwa kwenye surf board kwenye maji marefu baharini halafu aliiba board yake. Yule mama alibakia ku'angania buoy mpaka watu walikuja kumwokoa.

Alipata umaarufu mwaka 2008 wakati nyangumi wawili walikwama katika maji mafupi. Maisha yao yalikuwa hatarini, lakini Moko aliwapeleka kwenye maji marefu na wakaenda zao.

Huko New Zealand, Moko kazikwa kwa heshima. Nzoga yake ilizikwa ndani ya jeneza rangi ya bluu, na hata head stone.

Study: Body shape affects memory in older women

(CNN) -- A woman's body shape may play a role in how good her memory is, according to a new study.

The more an older woman weighs, the worse her memory, according to research released this week from Northwestern Medicine at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

The effect is more pronounced in women who carry excess weight around their hips, known as pear shapes, than women who carry it around their waists, called apple shapes.

The reason pear-shaped women experienced more memory and brain function deterioration than apple-shaped women is likely related to the type of fat deposited around the hips versus the waist.

Scientists know that different kinds of fat release different cytokines -- the hormones that can cause inflammation and affect cognition.

"We need to find out if one kind of fat is more detrimental than the other, and how it affects brain function," said Dr. Diana Kerwin, the lead author of the study and an assistant professor of medicine and a physician at Northwestern Medicine. "The fat may contribute to the formation of plaques associated with Alzheimer's disease or a restricted blood flow to the brain."

The study published in Wednesday's Journal of the American Geriatric Society said, on average, there is a one-point drop in the memory score for every one-point increase in body-mass index -- a ratio of a person's height and weight. The study included 8,745 cognitively normal, post-menopausal women ages 65 to 79.

"Obesity is bad, but its effects are worse depending on where the fat is located," Kerwin said.

"The study tells us if we have a woman in our office, and we know from her waist-to-hip ratio that she's carrying excess fat on her hips, we might be more aggressive with weight loss," Kerwin said. "We can't change where your fat is located, but having less of it is better."

Ile ngoma maarufu, The Twist, inasherekea miaka hamsini toka izaliwe. Uliimbwa na Chubby Checker. Watu wengi wataikumbuka ngoma iliyofanya wazee na vijana wazungu na weusi wamke na kukata viuno. Haya chezeni TWIST!!!!

Kumbukumbu - Siti Binti Saad 1880 -1950

Wadau, leo ni miaka sitini tangu mwimbaji maarufu wa Tanzania, malkia Original wa Mipasho, Siti Biti Saad afariki dunia.

Siti alizaliwa katika kijiji cha Fumba huko Zanzibar. Jina aliyopewa na wazazi wake ilikuwa Mtumwa. Wazazi wake walikuwa watumwa kutoka Bara. Aliishi maisha duni hadi alipohamia mjini Zanzibar na kuanza kupata umaarufu wa kuimba Taarab. Watu walimfurahia kwa vile alikuwa anaimba taarab kwa kiswahili lugha ambayo walikuwa wanatumia hasa ilikuwa kiaarabu.
Sultan alimwalika kuja kumwimbia. Baadaye alifanikiwa kwenda India na kikundi chake kurekodi santuri. Enzi zile zilikuwa zile 78's. Vijana wa siku hizi hawawezi kuzijua. Zilikuwa zinapigwa kwenye zile ,"His Master's Voice".

Marehemu Shabaan Robert alitunga kitabu, 'Wasifu wa Siti Binti Saad'. Anaelezea mengi kuhusu maisha ya Bibi Siti.

Siti Binti Saad 1880-1950

Siti na kikundi chake walipoenda Mumbai (Bombay), India kurekodi santuri kadhaa mwaka 1929.
